But Can She Pronounce "Irony"?

Whitney Port To: Natalie@Fashionista.com

From: Samantha@INoticeEverything.com

I was reading Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster (by Dana Thomas), and came upon this quote.

I couldn't get over the irony...

"'No matter how beautiful actresses are, they don't know how to dress,' says Kelly Cutrone, founder of the fashion public relations firm People's Revolution. 'They need to be told how to say the designer's name-- it's Jeee-van-she, not Ga-vin-chee.'"

Well I guess beautiful actresses can pronounce the names...

But what about your girl Whitney? Wait, isn't she an actress too?

This quote can be found on page 121.

i HIGHLY recommend reading that book - i JUST finished it and it really opens your eyes to the mass commercialization of "luxury" goods. it's perfect.

she totally mispronounced givenchy for the script- you could tell by the look on her face she wasn't happy about saying it wrong!

I thought Lauren said it wrong, not Whitney. I might be mistaken. Either way, she's not that dumb. Something is screwy.

I hate it when an actress I like can't dress herself. Pretty much all of them can't dress. That baffles me. I forgot about this book but now I really want to read it.

That is the best book I've read all year - it going to be part of my Fashion Book Review.

Woah. Creepy/crazy. And yeah, awesome book. Just finished reading the End of Fashion and I wish I hadn't read Deluxe first because E of F PALED in comparison... Although, as per the quote of the day, you can never have too many awesome Isaac Mizrahi moments.

Wow. How ironic! I wish Whitney was kicked out of Teen Vogue instead. How mean of me, but really...she's just....yeah.

Guest at 2:14/ I agree with you I think it was in the script, so they could make Lauren come off as the Fashionista, since she had her own "line" coming out.

I noticed the look on her face after she pronounced it. I'm sure it was scripted too. Whitney seems more high-end than the rest of the cast and don't forget these girls are rich to begin with, which is why they are on MTV. Don't their rich mothers wear and speak of high-end designers around them? Don't they all wear these labels to their sweet sixteens, proms, clam bakes, etc.? Hell, if you watch enough Style TV you just know how to pronounce these names.
