Erickson Beamon: Desperately Seeking Buyers

dita in erickson beamon.jpgBefore the grandiose Erickson Beamon birthday necklace gesture of Gossip Girl ‘07, we had no idea people actually cared about Erickson Beamon.

Britt recalls from her days in retail that the hideously overpriced costume jewelry would sit untouched for months, only randomly purchased by total randoms. In fact, the only time she ever touched any of it was when it needed fixing - the polished rocks (yes, actual rocks) were known for falling from their settings a bit too often.

So we were a little surprised that last week’s big accessories news was a tame SJP outfit topped with a mélange of mismatched Beamon baubles, for which we hope she was dearly paid.

And today’s first e-mail pitch? “Media Alert: Dita von Teese wearing Erickson Beamon!” from the Phillips de Pury party.

Somebody over there’s working overtime to get glass and plated gold that starts at $700 a pop on everyone’s mind - the question is, who’ll be paid next for a red carpet plug? Paging Rihanna…

I used to Intern at the showroom/ company that owns Erickson Beaman. And no one would ever buy it let alone stylists ever pull it. And do we not remeber Mandee from Fashionista diary's

Why is this post so catty?

Obviously, if it is on Gossip Girl, stylists are pulling the jewelry. I also see it featured regularly in Vogue, Elle, etc.

I also worked at Showroom 7 / Seventh House and that stuff did not sell much but it is pushed because the line is owned by the owners of the showroom.

We would sell it in the twice yearly sample sale at full price but were supposed to say it was discounted if we were asked.

Actually, the tone of the post is catty, but that's beyond the point.

I own several pieces of EB jewelry. Despite people's personal feelings about Showroom Seven, or Mandee, or their aethetic opinions about the jewelry, I have never had a problem with it falling apart, and I wear it all the time.

Also, it seems odd that it would be 'hideous' and 'poorly made' and yet it is still in Vogue, W, Elle, etc. I also doubt that stores like Barneys, Lane Crawford, and Net-A-Porter would risk their reputations and their customer bases by carrying an ugly, badly made product.

Consider that many expensive items are delicate, and consequently require repair occasionally. It does not neccessarily reflect on the quality of the item either way.

greygreygrey, why do you keep saying it's been in vogue/w/etc? never seen it anywhere but in stores, and the one time on gossip girl, which was way too big of an announcement to just be a simple "pull". also, the necklace on the show was a "diamond necklace" and all eb stuff is costume...

if your going to be obnoxious at least get your facts straight. Erickson Beamon gets a TON of press. a cursory web search reveals as much, not to mention that they've done the mainline since the 80s, launched diamonds a couple years ago and sunglasses this spring.

I have to confess that I find this entire situation to be hilarious. I love that several people seem to think that they know everything about Erickson Beamon when they know very little. Just calm down. If you don't like...don't buy it.

There seems to be some debate about whether magazines feature the brand. Try looking at the current issues of both Elle and Numero, as well as the August, November, December, and January issues of Vogue. And, NO, I don't work in press for Erickson Beamon. I am just bored and annoyed.
