I would absolutely love to be apart of W magazone's establishment but I'm not a college student. College isn't for me. Maybe I should sell myself really good to get the internship.

I intern at Conde Nast right now, (but for a different fashion publication) and they just instituted a system where interns get a small stipend ($12 for each day you work for over 3 or 4 hours...) This is to help cover transportation and a small lunch. I'm not sure if this goes into the Fairchild division (isn't that where W is?) but that's what I'm getting right now...with school credit.

Yes, that post does have a taste of bitterness to it - an unjustified one at that.
What the post doesn't say is that CondeNast interns recieve college credit for the time they put into working. That is standard at most companies who employ interns. It is illegal for interns to receive nothing in return for their work.
Additionally, as a former intern at a CondeNast fashion magazine, I can attest that while the work is hard and the hours long, the experience was one of the best and most fun learning experiences I have ever had. Internships are essential to breaking into the fashion industry - it is by far the best way to learn about what it takes to succeed.
Internships are a huge part of learning and of a good college education. Deal with it - you should all be so lucky to intern at such an amazing fashion magazine.

SHAME ON YOU Conde Nast.....Your company can well afford to pay young people for their work.I hope someone takes you to court to make you pay them at least minimum wages... and do not forget the health insurance, as a NY state resident I will be paying for their hospital bills should they get sick while working for you unless you offer them insurance and overtime which I am certain they will be entitled to.
This is just user-ville.I like the tongue in cheek ad-----obviously a bitchy employee
typical of the industry.

I know it sucks. But I got my first 2 jobs out of college based on internship experience. (More than one interviewer went, "Ooh, you worked at XXX? I love her!")
There are grants available to let students take unpaid internships during off terms. Check with your school's career services office. If your school doesn't offer internship grants there are private ones available, but you should start looking early.
