Is The New: Sean Avery and Emily Weiss

Apr 22, 2008 @ 9:30am

seanavery.jpgSo, Sean Avery, player of both hockey and women, is going to spend his summer interning at 4 Times Square.

Apparently, the 28-year old Ranger loves all things fashion and hopes to hone his sartorial skills "making copies" under Anna Wintour's watchful eye.

And he doesn't just shop for his girlfriends, WWD says. "He prizes his black patent leather Yves Saint Laurent high-tops," which obviously means Vogue's the next best place for him after the Madison Square Garden ice rink.

For those of you always asking how to get a foot in the fashion industry, take note, signing a $2 million contract that leaves your summers free for interning is probably a good bet.

And for those of you already lucky enough to have landed a summer internship in Vogue's closet, let us know which editor he throws against a wall first.

I think that it's so cool when someone (besides the cast of the Hills) who already has tons of money takes a humbled step in the direction of interning. Interning kind of sucks. . . but if you get something cool out of it, it's worth it.

it's not cool. it only makes it harder for the average joe schmoe to get an internship. this is exactly why the fashion industry is insane to break into, how is some random girl from wisconsin ever gonna get a job when all the millionaires and the millionaires' kids are already in on it?

Laia I totally see your point and agree with you in some aspects, HOWEVER, the fact that they're interning rather than walking in and demanding a paid position or sucking up to the right people to "guest" style shoots. . . well I think that says something. I mean interning is sort of a free for all. . .you're literally starting at the bottom. . . so what's so wrong about starting at the bottom even if you already have cash flow?

And another thing Laia (before I pipe down), I'm a former fashion intern and I didn't find getting the internships to be that challenging at all. At one place, we definitely had one or two rich brats running around the office (doing generally nothing). But if you're a fan of Anna Wintour, know that that woman came from piles of money and got her start, styling the paper of which her father was the editor-in-chief of (the Evening Standard). . . but regardless of money or status, if you aren't prepared to work very, very hard and put up with a fair amount crap here and there, you won't last in the fashion industry, regardless of whatever money is behind you. Preseverence is what remains in the end.

Sean Avery was listed in the "little black book" of the call girl who brought down Eliot Spitzer. Nice to see Vogue is keeping it classy....

As a fashion fan I'm meh, but as hockey fan I can't guess at what's he's thinking. Maybe he wants to get into more fights?
