Kate Chooses Life (Ball)

kate_moss.jpg For those of you who haven’t been abducted by Heatherette and dragged, drugged, on a plane, you may not know about the Life Ball.
It’s a giant celebration in Vienna every year that raises incredible funds and awareness for AIDS research and prevention.
Each year, a fashion label is chosen to host the event and throw a giant runway show before the dance begins.
Last year, it was (yep) Heatherette.
This year, it’s Agent Provocateur.
It’s exciting enough that there will be a giant runway show staged in a Hapsburg palace consisting entirely of corsets, underwear, and lace, but there’s something even giddier for the event:
Kate Moss is coming!
Of course it makes sense, considering she’s the face of Agent Provocateur, but still – so exciting.
We’ll have spies at the party, so stay tuned – the actual party happens in May.

does anything else think its a bit strange that they feature women in underwear & corsets for an AIDS awareness fundraiser?

…or that they’ve invited kate moss, not only the popularizer of “heroin chic,” but the woman whose ex used to poke people with needles/spray them with blood from syringes?
c’mon fashionista – don’t let your blind love for KM prevent you from waking up and smelling the irony…

I’m confused: Why is it inappropriate to show underwear fashions at an AIDS fundraiser? Your attitude is not only puritanical but hopelessly square. The Ball has been going on since the late ’80s when it was the Love Ball and staged in NY–always with guests and performers in provocative clothing.

Hi, I am from Vienna and have been to the Life Ball several times. I think you did not get the ball right, because it IS about waking people up to think about AIDS and to be aware of it, but it is also about celebrating life. To get this ball international noticed, gerry kessler (the founder) needs publicity from whomever (he started very small) – so kate moss does her work. You should come and see it by yourself – but buy the tickets early enough (ebay), they are sooo hard to get and expensive! Greetings fom Vienna, Miss T.
