Sart Does Gap!

Apr 24, 2008 @ 12:00pm

scott with his camera.jpgWe love when good things happen to good people.

So here's the equivalent of a newspaper posting pictures of cute puppies:

Scott Schuman was just shot for the Fall '09 Gap ads!

Aww, we can't wait to see him sitting on a stool in a striped sweater or something -

Or do you think they'd use one of him taking a picture of a cute girl on Prince?

More pressing: Will he pose with Caroline?

I used to love Scott before the whole Makeover Fiasco. I realize he's explained his motivations exhaustively, but sadly I can't seem to muster the same joy anymore regardless. He just seems so full of himself to me now.

I agree with guest @12:57 he does seem a little full of himself now. I can't really put it into words. But he does take great pictures, well composed, etc. I have never met him on the street in nyc (I live here too), and have always wondered if he would find my daily persona worth snapping. It is so interesting how the internet is becoming the great equalizer among us.

The makeover post is April 11 at his site, so it's pretty easy to find...best to read his words and the posters reactions for yourself.

This kind of explains why he recommended Gap for his makeover girl.

I kind of want to defend him because although I felt a bit 'oh dear' about the makeover idea, I can't say I think he's got too full of himself. All we know of him is what we read on his site, few of us have met him. Things can be misconstrued on blogs, in emails and in text messages. The tone gets lost, sarcasm and irony can be missed. So I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's probably dreading putting up the results of the makeover for fear of an even bigger backlash than the announcement.

PS, love that b/w pic of him...

He's extremely talented. Too bad about that personality of his.

The Times of India story which he posted on is a good example. He told a reporter he paid a certain -- exorbitant for Indians, cheap for westerners-- amount for a bottle of essential oil, and got super pissed at her when she changed his words so that it made him look like he wasn't taken advantage of quite as badly. Stupid move on the reporter's part, but Sart displayed a bullheaded, touristy ignorance as to why she changed it.....He couldn't understand that she was actually trying to protect his image.

Also, his tendency to only shoot the very thin, often at angles that make them look thinner still (in particular, a certain whimsical asian woman comes to mind), and then act offended when people question the choice (or wonder why he never chooses to shoot the over-a-size-4 well dressed --- they do exist, folks!)

In comparison, these instances make the so called "makeover fiasco" seem like not quite as big of a deal, at least to me.

I'll still keep visiting the site, tho. One can't deny he's got a great eye for detail.
