She's Big in Japan

Apr 10, 2008 @ 1:20pm

Kate LanphearNew York fashion insiders have a reliable stable of crushes: Alber Elbaz, the brilliant Lanvin designer who resembles a talking teddy bear; Kate Bosworth, the slightly too-thin but always charming actress (whom Vogue’s Sally Singer calls a “muse”), and Kate Lanphear, the spunky, punky Senior Fashion Editor at Elle, whose winning tough-girl outfits are the envy of pretty much everyone.

But it turns out the American fashion pack aren’t the only ones with a crush –

Kate’s got a following in Japan, too.

“Tiffany’s is flying her out to Tokyo for an autograph session,” reports a fellow editor. “She’s as popular as Ashley Olsen out there.”

Ooooh, Kate's cooler than the Olsen's - there's something we already kinda knew.

One more thing: Perhaps Kate will have her own jewelry collection eventually?

Ditto previous poster who asked which Kate you're talking about.

Also, small point, but after "muse" you should have a semicolon, not a comma.

The hype around Lanphear I can understand.

Bosworth, however leaves me confused. She played a cute surfer 6 years ago and has a decent stylist. Why is she everywhere?

You Fashionistas gals are funny!

The editor with a jewelry collection coming out soon was a blind item which I totally got.

Kate Rules!

Kate Lanphear that is.

the people who are confused are the people who for some reason cannot tell that the picture is obviously kate lanphear. even if you don't know what she looks like, you'd think you could at least put together that it's not kate bosworth in the picture, and move logically from there. geez.

I saw Kate Lanphear walking down the street in Soho last September. She was with an old co-worker of mine. She stopped my breath. . . she was just so cool and impeccably dressed. The girl I was walking with said "how on earth do some people in New York just look endlessly cooler than the rest of us?" I still smile when I think about that day.

i interned at elle in the fall and kate lanphear is hands down the coolest girl ever. not only is she basically who you want to be in life, but she's so nice, personable, and incredidbly kind. i can't say enough about her.
