Explain

Wet Seal 2.0

ashlee simpson wet seal top.jpgSomething’s happening over at Wet Seal, but we can’t quite put our finger on what it is.

First, they let Ashlee Simpson design a line of t-shirts, some even with her face on them.

Now, they’ve launched a Community section on their site, which includes a “social networking element” meant to create a more in-store kind of experience, so that girls can chat with each other while they shop.

We’re not sure what to make of this, but here’s a funny coincidence -

Last week’s episode of The Office (is this a shameless, un-fashiony television reference? Why yes, it is) started with the return of Ryan, and the problems that arose from Dunder Mifflin’s attempt at incorporating a social networking component into their paper-purchasing site, which nobody saw a reason for…

I actually like Ashley Simpson...but not on my damn shirt! This is obviously for the young teen/young twenty Wet Seal Shopper. The community section is a good idea....I think Wet Seal is trying to get competetive with the Forever 21 and H&M's of the world!

Meh, I prefer 14's version. And I thought only Paris has shirts with her face on them.

There is never anything wrong with and Office reference; it's such a good show.

Love The Office reference! I'm ok with singers being put on t-shirts but, Ashlee Simpson is a bad role model for girls. Plastic surgery (and subsequent decries that girls should love themselves nomatter what.) and a lack of vocal/lyrical talent. When I saw these in the store windows, I was disgusted.

i love the office! but who wants ashlee on your shirt. not me. wet seal is trying to catch up with the other stores but i don't think they are doing a very good job.

yes! i thought the same thing about the office. except this is *wet seal* we're talking about, so if anything is going to lure in sexual predators... just sayin'.
