Whitney: Still an Intern?

Whitney Port Smiling.jpgToday’s WWD has a full-on story about Whitney Port’s clothing line, Eve & A.

But we weren’t interested in her clothes as much as we were interested in her title at People’s Revolution.

The story states that she is officially an intern for Kelly Cutrone.

Intern?

We’re pretty sure she’s supposed to be an actual employee on the show, some sort of assistant, something, especially since she had a supposedly paid position at Teen Vogue before she moved over to PR.

Is even Whitney’s position made up for the show? We can’t imagine one of the busiest PR companies putting up with cameras and crew just to have an extra person cataloguing clothes as “work.” We understood with Teen Vogue - it was a fake set in their LA offices, after all.

But a fake job in a real place? Really?

I take everything from The Hills with a pinch of salt .. its an MTV reality show not the US Senate. & Whitney is F-A-B-O end of.

There was no way she was a paid employee of Teen Vogue. That whole position was obviously fabricated.

I worked for a certain publication who taped a reality show in their offices. Trust me, there is nothing real about it - everything is fake. From fake jobs to fake desks. Think they are in there 9-6, 5 days a week? Think again. It's more like this: they show up for one day for two hours in full makeup and sit at a desk under full lighting and pretend like they have a job. Word.

I wish the fashion industry was as catty and snobby as everyone thinks it is and I wouldnt have to know about people like these with fake jobs at places where other people are trying to actually work and make a living.

I used to intern for PR, when I say intern, they call it "volunteer" since you're not being paid. Their interns are full time and are paid, many of them not being in school - it's something you have to do at that company to move up - they have major responsibilities and are treated like employees.

interns are paid, they pretty much are assistants - and they do a hell of a lot more than "cataloguing clothes"

This is the genius (yes, I said genius) of The Hills. We just don't know. I think they plan it that way. I honestly believe that much of it is fake. Ok, most of it is fake. But, the line between reality and scripted is so blurred on this show it keeps me intrigued. It would be fascinating in like ten years to find out that these aren't even these girl's names.

well, she's paid by mtv instead. i guess that's how she can afford to pull all-nighters for PR.

Hey I wish I was Whitney getting this exposure fake or not....after the show is over, I bet she can get a "real job" somewhere! Plus she's pulled a clothing line that looks leaps and bounds better than that crap Heidi has put out and the over priced wannabe T-bag/Racheal Pally stuff Lauren had put out!

maybe Target will get one of the Hills girls to design for their GO Int'l line. Oh the possibilities... (maybe then LC's designs will be closer to what they should actually cost)

I didn't know the teen vogue office was fake either. We all knew Heidi's job was fake, and we all knew whitney and lauren got special treatment, but man, they couldn't even use a real office?!

Oh and, I do have to defend the price of Laurens collection, it is actually made in downtown LA as opposed to Honduras, so the labor costs are much higher. Though they still might be slightly overpriced their is only so low it can go while still being made locally.

The LA office of People's Rev was really small before - Mike (who's now on the show), another girl, and an assistant. Half the time there was no one even answering the phones. I don't know where that whole huge staff - I'm sorry, "family" - came from! Clearly fake!

Laia-
It was exactly AA that was in my thoughts when I said "Though they still might be slightly overpriced"

Because its definitely pricier than AA, but not as low as say Forever 21.

I know for a fact her job is made up for the show. They tape for a couple of hours and leave.

On "The Hills" she is an employee - but it's reality television where they make up stories about what people do. Why would Kelly Cutrone want cameras around? PUBLICITY for her firm. I think it's interesting that they say Kelly's pr firm is one of the biggest fashion firms and she represents crummy designers. I am also startled by the fact that Kelly would let a camera follow her around when she looks like she just woke up. Put some make-up on that girl and give her a hair cut pronto!

I understand that a lot of it is staged....but a fake set? Really? Can we get the dirt on that fashionista?

All those Hills jobs are fake. The point is really to give the brands/companies some face time on MTV, and create the illusion that the girls are working in "fashion". None of those girls are even remotely qualified to hold any of those jobs. The whole point is to be on TV, otherwise (as you imply) why would a busy and successful place like People's Revolution or Teen Vogue deal with the hassle of MTV cameras following a lowly intern? And wasn't The Hills created as an outlet to showcase Teen Vogue in the first place?

@guest at 12:04: The chance of Whitney segueing into an actual real job in fashion are even lower than an ANTM winner actually making it as a real fashion model. Trust.

Me too! She must not care because I saw her on Split Ends and she looked just as crappy.
