Exclusive: SJP Talks About Sex...
May 05, 2008 @ 4:02pm
Last Friday, we had the privilege of attending a TimesTalk with Sarah Jessica Parker and television reporter William J. Carter.
The talk coincided with the beginning of SJP's press junket for the film, as well as Ginia Bellafante's article on the upcoming movie for The Times itself.
Sarah Jessica was dressed like an Olsen - black Rick Owens t-shirt, black Bitten cropped jeans, motorcycle booties with wooden heels, the best blonde highlights we have ever seen in our lives.
She was really funny and really cool, and after the talk was over, she shook our hand ("Hi, I'm Sarah Jessica, so lovely to meet you,") and when we told her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was a formative part of our childhood, she laughed hysterically.
It was pretty awesome, and although we still don't love the concept of Bitten, it's pretty settled that we do love Sarah Jessica Parker, because she actually was that smart and that funny, and that comfortable in too-high heels.
Here's what had to say about the upcoming Sex and the City flick:
On Her Wardrobe: “After our first screening, one reporter told me I was exposing more skin than I had in the past, with my costumes, but that's not true. In fact, that would be suicidal on my part at this age – it’s just because the movie screen is so big, that it looks like there’s more of me!”
On The Movie Trailer: "We're not giving anything away! Who knows what part of that is a dream sequence and what order of events they put that trailer in!”
On SATC Fashion Trends: “Around the 2nd season I saw nameplate necklaces. I was growing up in the city during that time when girls wore nameplate necklaces, and this generation of girls were not of that generation!”
On Putting Her Name to Clothes: "I can’t sketch; I can’t do anything that should be required to have a clothing line. I have so many friends that are actual designers who wouldn’t get funding to do real collections, so I always declined offers to design a range for myself. Bitten is different, it's like, jeans.”
On Using a Stylist: “Before I met Patricia, I thought everything had to match! When Patricia started dressing me, I would ask her, don’t these colors clash? And she would say, yes, great, anything to offend the eye! It was great!... I do use a stylist and not infrequently. I cannot go and do all that wardrobe work. But I am not a Paper Doll, I will tell you that.”
On Shoes: "I do like shoes; they are special. But do I like shoes as much as Carrie? Oh, no, no, no! We're not even in the same league."
And hopefully, that will tide you over until the actual film.
Is Ally Hilfiger a Solo Artist?
May 05, 2008 @ 3:32pm
It's no secret we have a little crush on Ally Hilfiger.
(1. Her name is Alexandria, which is like super British and intellectual. 2. Her smile is huge. 3. She can't make burritos. 4. She has two Basquiats in her Tribeca apartment...).
So when the heiress announced she was doing a line of t-shirts with Izzy Gold, the scenester/ dj/ artist/ whatever, we were pretty stoked.
Except, well... she's not doing them any more.
We heard at a fashion party this weekend that la petite Hilfiger is no longer working with Izzy on t-shirts, and is focusing instead on her painting, at least for the moment.
How that union dissolved, we have no idea, but somehow, we imagine it happened in the VIP room of a midtown nightclub.
Bizarro Christian Invades San Fran
May 05, 2008 @ 2:56pm
This weekend, several blog posts emerged from San Francisco, claiming Christian Siriano had gotten wasted at a bar, pitched a fit, and gotten thrown out on his fierce tranny ass.
The problem?
Christian's been in New York all week, working on dresses for the MTV Video Music Awards (among other things).
So if it's not Christian raising hell on Haight Street, then who is flipping their asymmetrical haircut to the point of total damnation?
Well, who's seen Amy Poehler this week?
Margherita Missoni Is Apartment Shopping
May 05, 2008 @ 2:30pm
Spotted:
Margherita and Theresa Missoni, smoking in a black town car on the corner of 2nd Street and Avenue B.
They were being shown around a property by Jared Seligman, the BFF of Jessica Stam and broker for most models in Manhattan, and they looked very interested.
Could the Missoni babes be moving to the Village, even after Margherita claimed she was done with New York?
If so, we'll know soon enough - that condo is three minutes away from Faran's apartment.
Dylan Thomas, Meet the Misshapes
May 05, 2008 @ 2:15pm
Though the Miller sisters' clothing line, Twenty8Twelve, has been more successful than the usual celebrity clothing line, (probably because Savannah's a real designer), they're branching out to the more lucrative realm of accessories.
So far they've done scarves, gloves and bags and we're hoping shoes aren't far.
The sisters said their inspiration for their simple but colorful collection was Dylan Thomas' poetry.
However, the bags named in WWD are called the Harlech, the Lezark, and the Jezebel.
Did we skip that Dylan Thomas poem in AP English?
Who Are You Wearing? Target?
May 05, 2008 @ 12:57pm
Last Year, Kate Moss wore a dress from Topshop (yes, we know it was her own design, but still) to the Met Ball - the party of the year and the most appropriate time to wear couture.
A few weeks ago, Sarah Jessica Parker, that ultimate paragon of the cheap dress / expensive shoes look showed up to Matthew Broderick's premiere in a dress from Bitten. It's one thing to go on Oprah wearing a $40.00 outfit and $700.00 shoes to promote your new line - but the red carpet's a bit of a different scene. And this is the woman who not too long ago wouldn't step out on a red carpet in anything less than couture. Now she's in a $10 cotton sun dress?
Is this what she meant when she said she and her friends compete over who spends the least on their outfit?
And then last Thursday, Vanessa Von Bismarck, PR Princess and real life Countess wore Banana Republic to a Lulu DK event at Antony Todd. Her wedding was documented inVogue and the dress was custom made Derek Lam. But now that she's pregnant she decides mid-priced career wear is more her speed? As far as we know, she is not designing a line for BR.
We love Banana and Topshop, but given the choice, Britt would wear Vivienne Westwood, Natalie would go straight to Matthew Williamson, and I would be on the phone with Thom Browne. Maybe if we wore Chanel Couture on a weekly basis, we too would be jonesing for a cheap and chic red carpet look.
How about you?

Celebrity Breakup: Agyness Deyn + Christopher Bailey
May 05, 2008 @ 12:39pm
To: Natalie@fashionista.com
From: EnglishRose@fashion.co.uk
FACT:
Agyness Deyn will not be in the Burberry campaign next season.
Trust this.
We do trust it, but that leaves a bigger question:
Last week, Agyness said she wouldn't be attending the ball because of a European fashion shoot - which we find suspect since everyone in the industry will in fact be at the Met tonight. Maybe she's not going because Christopher Bailey's taking Lily Donaldson? Or because Gareth Pugh's Batman Goes on LSD outfits are being worn by someone else? Couldn't she have sat at the Armani table with Katie Grand, since she is one of his faces?
Other Met Ball news?
Audrey Tatou's confirmed to wear Chanel tonight which makes perfect sense after this morning's announcement that she's the new face of Chanel No. 5.
Enough anticipation already - can it please be 8?!
Hedi Slimane's New Crush
May 05, 2008 @ 11:57am
We often wrestle with the question of underage babes in fashion, but usually, the models in question are girls like Chanel Iman, 17, Karlie Kloss, 16, and Ali Stephens, 16.
Now we're fixated on a new rising model, but the difference is, he's a boy.
The cutie in question is Hayes Peebles, a 16-year-old singer / songwriter from upstate New York who's already been photographed by David Bailey for Teen Vogue.
Peebles was recently shot by Hedi Slimane, with photos of his muscular bare back - and his plastic Star Wars and Batman toys - posted on Hedi's website.
We suspect they're part of a bigger series for V Man magazine, but that's just a well-placed hunch based on where we got the tipoff about the pictures.
Obviously, the bigger discussion about this is - well, should there be a bigger discussion?
Madonna + Givenchy = Tour Hotness
May 05, 2008 @ 10:55am
We hear that Madonna will eschew some of her Dolce + Gabbana costumes on her tour for those by Ricardo Tisci, the head designer at Givenchy.
Madge will wear some ready-to-wear pieces by the French house helmed by the Italian designer, and also some of their recent couture collection.
The singer has already been spotted out and about in heaps of Givenchy clothes - here she is in People Magazine, getting called out on her severely chic ensemble.
Another link to the label made famous by Breakfast at Tiffany's?
Justin Timberlake is the new face of Givenchy's men's perfume and the latest pop star to collaborate with Madonna on a hit song.
Leona Lewis, Vegan Fashion Designer
May 05, 2008 @ 9:57am
Apparently, having a number one single on iTunes isn't enough for some girls - they also have to design clothes.
That's the word from the UK, where the super-cute Leona Lewis has announced her latest project: a vegan clothing line made with cruelty-free materials.
Lewis has been a vegetarian since she was twelve, and doesn't wear leather or fur - though judging from a quick Google Image search, pleather is totally okay, especially if it comes in a tight cut and a sparkly, metallic color.
In fact, maybe Lewis' line can be the antidote to Natalie Portman's own vegan collection, a series of shoes for Te Casan that are priced from $200 - $500. If we can get a pair of vegan black ballet flats for $30, we are so game - especially if, unlike Stella McCartney's, they don't fall apart after two weeks.
Is Marie Claire In?
May 05, 2008 @ 9:31am
We're not the only ones worried about Elle's massive shake-up this month.
Project Runway's allegedly looking to partner with a new magazine for season six, which, by the way, will officially be taped in Los Angeles.
WWD reports their choice is likely to be Marie Claire which we find strange considering Marie Claire isn't exactly a fashion authority. But it is owned by the same parent company as Lifetime, which can't hurt their chances. The collaboration, however, is likely to do more for the magazine than for the show.
In other Project Runway news, one of our favorite, and arguably most successful, designer alumns, Alison Kelly, is launching a new line for Brooklyn boutique Alter and they're throwing a shopping launch party this Thursday night on Greenpoint's Franklin Avenue.
Christian, meet Alison.
Double the Fun

Happy Met Monday Girls!
Word is, Peter Som will be doing double duty at the ball tonight. He'll walk the steps once with a top model dressed in Blass, and then again a little bit later with a certain indie film actress with a big movie coming out this summer. The actress, who considered not attending the event, is being helicoptered into the city especially for the event at the behest of A.W.
Hope Peter's quads are in good shape.
xoxo

Update: According to WWD, the actress is Maggie Gyllenhaal and the model - Jourdan Dunn!
