Project Runway Babes Live on at GenArt

May 12, 2008 @ 3:23pm

Dahl by Alison KellyGenArt's Spring fashion show is next Monday, and as usual, it's a giant buffet of designers you've almost heard of, sponsors desperate for the youth vote, and the presence of Meredith Melling-Burke.

But this year, there's something else that's kind of funny:

Two of the "Designer of the Year" candidates are hot girls from Project Runway.

First up is Alison Kelly, whose Dahl NYC line (left) has been kicking around New York for a few years now and has fans in Hilary Duff and Charlotte Ronson.

Next is Jillian Lewis, the memorable #3 on this season's PRunway, whose Vivienne Westwood knockoffs and expert tailoring nearly won her the winner's crown.

It would be great to see either designer win the prize money (sponsored by Tone) because both are talented and driven young women in the industry.

We just hope their award doesn't include a prize from the title sponsor - that would be Botox, and although wrinkled clothes aren't acceptable, wrinkled foreheads are just fine...

Ruffian + Earnest Sewn = Pop Up Shop!

May 12, 2008 @ 2:55pm

RuffianIt's all happening:

Starting next week, Ruffian takes over the back room at Earnest Sewn's store in the Meatpacking District, hyping their insane '08 line (needlepoint graffiti cocktail dresses, skinny denim suits) and collaborating with artist Anne Koch on a new visual installation.

The space and the clothes are based on the Boarding-School-Rebel theme, with scribbled chiffon, shredded silk, and teeny black neckties all echoing the idea.

To celebrate, the Ruffian boys are throwing a party at Earnest Sewn on May 27 -

No word yet on whether muse Agyness Deyn will make it over.

Rodnik to Show During NY Fashion Week

May 12, 2008 @ 1:37pm

Rodnik BoysAlice Temperley may be back in London, but a UK import is officially hauling over to Manhattan for Fashion Week:

We hear the adorable boys of Rodnik are actively seeking a space and sponsors for their first formal fashion show in New York.

Rodnik started in 2003 at the University of St. Andrews, and has grown into something of a British Trovata - cool party clothes for girls, crazy parties and concepts thrown in for memory.

Last season, Rodnik staged a rock concert at The Box, where it presented their frocks on models, while the designers, Phil and Rich, played guitar and screamed into the mics.

This season?

Well, anything goes... stay tuned!

Leigh Lezark to IMG; Misshapes Parties

May 12, 2008 @ 11:54am

leigh lezark smile.jpgThis just in from IMG -

Leigh Lezark has just been signed as their newest model/cute girl/fashion favorite for "worldwide representation and endorsement".

Leigh's no stranger to the job - she's walked for House of Holland, posed for Roberto Cavalli for H&M, and she recently not-smiled for the Holiday Gap ads (not to mention her countless editorials).

According to IMG, the decision to sign her as an official face was easy - they think "she is the definition of cool and is exactly what is happening in fashion right now" plus she's really pretty.

In other Misshapes news: the trio's feting their soon-to-be-relaunched website with a party at the Tribeca Grand on June 7th, and they're also getting ready for a serious summer of DJ'ing - they're doing both H&M openings in Vancouver and Montreal in addition to touring all summer, and they're also in the midst of a "music project" with Gaultier Paris.

But back to Leigh - wouldn't she be the perfect replacement for Cory Kennedy's Urban Decay ads? We think so.

Rimmel Gets Another Face

May 12, 2008 @ 8:59am

sopie ellis bextor.jpgThere have been rumors of Kate Moss being ousted from her post as the Rimmel girl for some time, but now there are rumors that name an actual replacement -

Catwalk Queen's reporting that the mass beauty brand has signed another face to star alongside Kate, and it's Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The English pop star's reportedly signed a multi-pound, three-year contract requiring her to shoot two campaigns per year, the first of which is already finished.

Coty, Rimmel's parent company, claims they're just looking for new faces to reach new global markets, but that Kate will stay on as the brand's worldwide ambassador.

We're wondering if the beautiful Laurie Bing will finally be bumped up from press model to public ad girl, but we guess we'll have to wait and see...
