Gwyneth Drives Sales

gwyneths shoes.jpgThough some people find Gwyneth Paltrow and her mommy-cooing “boring” and “self-righteous”, we can all at least agree that no matter what anyone may think of her, the woman remains a fashion icon.

Thanks to some people diligently documenting her choice of footwear for her recent public appearances, Selfridges is happy to report a 35% rise in sales of sky-high heels since Gwyneth’s made walking in 7-inch platforms look like a daily treat.

Particularly popular have been the Alexander McQueens, at left.

We think the higher-the-better look has been happening for a while (New York’s Fashion Week saw many girls in super minis and super heels teetering between shows, trying to act like the pain’s fun, not foul) but we’re just kind of happy and tickled that everybody’s partaking in the look.

Next stop: Platforms and super wide trousers. It’s like Supersize Me but for fashion, right?

That looks so incredibly painful.

Personally, I think the shoes suddenly lose all of their appeal because they look so darn painful lol.

Otherwise, they would have been a good pair of high heels to add to my closet. They're cute and simple. However, you can find shoes similar to those(not knock-offs) anywhere else, and with a shorter heel! (:

Once they slip back into a pair of flats, those will be out the door or in that forgotten corner of the shoe closet.

any person who can walk in those without falling, earns my respect.

They kind of remind me of the point shoes I used to wear in ballet. Unless I'm planning on going up on point in them, they just look painful.

The gwyneth effect. I feel like I'm 15 all over again.

Maybe it's just me or the angle of this photo, but I don't think these heels look like they're 7 inches...or particularly outrageous for that matter

Aside from pain, there's the issue of seriously damaging your feet! I once broke a bone in my foot, and my doctor said never wear heels again. I love flats anyway, but if I do wear heels they must be comfortable -- I don't do the whole suffering-for-beauty thing when it comes to shoes. Not being able to walk is a definite problem.

To clarify the above post -- I didn't break a bone *because* of heels. I had fractured it another way, and the doctor said wearing heels was a no-no after that.

it's making all the veins and bones in her feet pop out and look weird. it's like they're crying for help. it looks ridiculous.

To guest @ 10:42 AM: Those flats are beautiful, and look so comfortable!

Maybe it's because I'm five-two, but I'm agreed with the guest at 2:23--those shoes really don't look that high. If they are, though, props to Gwyneth.
