Quote of the Day

“Burberry, the British luxury fashion brand, is riding out the credit crunch with £450 wellies, an £11,000 alligator skin handbag and a £3,000 chevron coat worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City - the Movie.” - Steve Hawkes, in the London Times
“Sometimes I’ll walk past a store and see that [$500 flip-flops], or see rubber boots for $500, and it disgusts me. I know what it costs to make them.” - Robert Duffy, in the New York Times.

I loved that NY Times article. I think its great that mid-tier fashion is being recognized as legitimate and fashionable in itself. You can be fashionable without wearing major designers. Although if someone told me I could have everything Vivian Westwood for free, I wouldn't say no.

I'm confused! That NY Times article says that fast fashion is doing well because people want affordable clothes in an economic downturn. Yet, I keep reading elsewhere (http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/fashion/article4014680.ece) that luxury and individuality are the way to go. So which is it? Is meanswear different to womenswear? Or is the US behind the UK?
