Sephora Picks Kat

May 20, 2008 @ 11:03am

Kat Von D Amy Winehouse may be elusively avoiding fashion contracts - and also detox and jail - but her influence rings clear.

Even when she herself can't be present on a photo shoot, she seems to leak in anyway. We saw it in Vogue Italia when Lara Stone posed with massive painted tattoos on her body. We saw it in the Chanel Cruise show, when Siri wore crazy cat eyes and teased hair, and in the new Chanel ads with Coco.

And now, we're seeing it on the Sephora website, where they grab Kat Von D, the tattoo artist and fetish model from TLC, dress her up like Amy Winehouse, attempt to sell her makeup line, and call her a beauty insider.

On the upside, she must be cheaper than the $1 million rumored to be Amy's fee for a private appearance - and Kat will be clean and sober on a photo shoot.

Kat is a total skell and this makeup channels NARS on a bad day.

I believe it's The Learning Channel, not Bravo.

That aside, I don't understand why Kat Von D was granted her own makeup line. Personally, I think she always looks like a tranny mess. At least she isn't designing her own line of leggings...

"Kat will be clean and sober on a photo shoot"

LOLZ

Kat is also an alleged anti-Semite (http://www.tmz.com/2008/02/08/kat-von-d-anti-semite/); her show has done absolutely nothing to endear her to the public, instead exposing her selfishness and immaturity; and she falls in love every five minutes (which wouldn't be bad if she'd just stop blabbing and tatting herself up over the dude of the minute).

Finally, tattooing one's self to this degree is, pardon my French, totally retarded and fugly. And dated.

Yeah, it's TLC. I love Kat Von D for the most part. I checked her like out on Sephora last night and thought the line, which I found dark and gritty with punches of brights, would definitely be popular in certain circles... you KNOW, the fake (or real) tattooing, facial piercing, jet black hair with blond/purple/lime green highlighting - circles. I say good for her.
Also, I didn't find her looking very Amy at all. At ALL. She's always dressed that way, so to say Amy and Kat have similar style would be a lot closer than saying they're Wining up Kat for the shoot!

As for the anti-semitic issue, it was cleared up very quickly as a really bad joke... but if TMZ is your source of information... believe what you will.

And as for her being 'retarted and fugly'... fashion is about expression... she doesn't care what the masses say or what's trendy or not... and 'dated' is a term that should be reserved for those trying to be current but severely lacking, not the non-conformists who don't give a crap!

I did say that Kat is an alleged anti-Semite. BTW It was cleared up by KAT as a joke, so the jury is still out.

I don't know what to think, nor do I really care, I just pointed that out because I think Sephora is taking a risk with someone whose image is so unstable. I linked to TMZ because it came up first in a Google search and because the URl was reasonably short (and also because TMZ links to Kat's official response to the accusation, should anyone want to follow that).

I think she is a massively talented tattoo artist, but an obnoxious human being. She may be a nonconformist (although seeing that I can't swing a cat in a rock n' roll club without hitting some girl/guy with tattoo sleeves and/or full chest/neck/back work of koi/wings/animal spot/Vegas dice/pin-up chicks, I'm somewhat doubtful).

Kat may have done all *her* tattooing for personal and sentimental reasons, but her look has been copied endlessly and now it is dated. Played out. Conformist. Boring.

I am happy for her that she is an artist and will hopefully still have a job when this trendy over-tattooing ridiculousness dies down.

12:53, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with that comment... or what it even means (am I using? have I got a cyber booger!?), but let's try and talk about the the subject at hand and not take things personally...Plus, I'm very sensitive about my nose.

Gotcha!
I'm horrible at picking up on these things! It's so much easier when you're still in high school... and so much more appropriate...

Kat has a legitiamte fan base. I don't think this is the Winehouse effect. Sephora probably just wanted an in with the alternative/tattoo/rock'n'roll scene.

over tattooing isn't really a trend, considering when you become that visably tattooed, you start making life decisions about what you want people to see you as. Most people are smart enough to realize that and only get your tramps stamps etc.

But whatever, power to kat for being out there 'cause that takes some crazy "balls" and just her uniqueness if nothing else should be appreciated.
