"So I'm like totally going to like NYC like yesterday but like most probably just soon for like a totally hot fashion shoot, so um I'm totally gonna freak out and like return and like tell you how psyched I am about like using the words trash and like cell and my apartment like next time we hang out and um blog and LIKE totally talk fashion!!!" - Erin O'Connor doing her best American accent on her Vogue UK blog.

that's like, not at all, like offensive.

Wow, that is really offensive. Just because I am an American doesn't mean I am an idiot.

I really love Erin O'Conner! And like that's exactly what American girls sound like. I forget how much I say like until I meet a British person. Get over it gues tat 10:39AM.

all american girls sound like that? thats like saying all british women have bad teeth. or all british women have beer for lunch. its just not true.

I usually don't care about these sort of comments, but, British accent or no, there is, LIKE, a negative-zero percent chance that Erin O'Connor is smarter than me...and I know her bio and everything so don't try and fill me in on her accomplishments. Blindly assuming Europeans are intelligent is pretty much the dumb-American-est thing that a dumb American can do...there is also something vulgar about it that makes me feel icky.

PLUS I have many friends and relatives from the UK and they have their own speaking quirks, don't they?
(see what I did there, with the pointlessly making the statement into a question?)

I thought that was pretty lame actually when I read that. Impressions of Americans over-using "like" are so tired and obviously untrue.

I wasn't offended, I just rolled my eyes at it. And WE get blamed for being ignorant? Ha.

Her critique would have been more forceful if it had been subtler.

It's more boring then offensive. She couldn't even bother to make it funny? The only thing she did was use lame old stereotypes. Saying everyone in America is a dumbass is like saying everyone in Jamaica smokes weed.
And guest at 11:02AM: where's your proof?

This was not a critique or a major international incident! As an American living in the UK, I get it all the time and make fun of their accents right back and its all in good fun. Right-o, cheerio!

wow.
that wasn't even funny.
i'm not so much offended at the fact that she's making assumptions like this, as i am that she's just not that funny.

LIKE, at all.

there's no getting around the fact that saying like after every word makes one sound like a moron.

i think i'd be much more tolerant of that if it were actually funny...except...it's quite boring. plus, i have had british friends who use the word 'like' a million times more than some of my american friends so its not even true

I have met Erin in London...
She is deluded by her 'iconic status'.
The lights are on but there is nobody home.
Bless her.:-)))
