The best part about living in London, aside from the boys and the beer, is the abundance of outdoor shopping opportunities.
So, imagine our delight at today’s news that Portobello Road will now have an online counterpart.
The winding Notting Hill road is one of the best markets because vintage stalls sit squished between up and coming designers and in London that just might mean the next McQueen.
But if your London tastes gear more toward Spitalfields or Camden, don’t worry. Lisette, Victoria and Georgina Cooper, the sisters behind the genius idea, plan on adding other markets as soon as the first is up and running.
And in case, like us, half the thrill of market shopping is in the bargaining, the girls have taken that into account and there’s an entire section for haggling.

I think it’s cool that you’ll be able to shop a London market without leaving your seat (believe me, I miss Spitalfields so much these days), but the truly fun part is actually seeing the items in person, admiring it, (doing your equations in your head to see if you can afford it), and telling your friends how you stumbled upon this awesome little booth all because your boyfriend wanted to wonder around the corner to find a pub.
OMG that is AMAZING! I got my favorite coat, a vintage 3/4 sleeve mohair coat in black grey and brown with a peter pan collar at Portobello Market about 10 years ago. They have the best vintage clothing in the world, as well as the emerging designers. Thank you for the info. I plan on using it!
ehh, I’ve never found Portobello to be that great. People always say they find great stuff there but anytime I’ve been it’s just loads of old Burberry trenches marked up. I also prefer Spitalfields though no online site can really capture the atmosphere. It seems a bit pointless to be honest, other than perhaps giving an online presence to vintage sellers who wouldn’t otherwise be there
This is a terrible idea and IMO it takes the fun out of the actual market. How is it different from eBay, other than the sellers being specific to a small region?

While I miss Spitalfields regularly, I’m not sure how to feel about this concept. A market is a market and an online store, well, not a market. I think I would rather couhg it up to fly back to London for Spitalfields than say “I got it at Spitalfields.com” yuck.
