Not So Secret Obsession

asos & satc.jpgIf there’s any sort of line, any point at which ripping off designers goes too far, ASOS just crossed it.

Right now, their homepage features Carrie Bradshaw’s laptop and her oft-repeated quote, “I like my money right where I can see it, hanging in my closet.” One click and you’re in Carrie’s closet, circa Sex and the City: The Movie, where you can continue to click on a variety of outfits “inspired by” Pat Field’s costumes.

The thing is, when you do that, you’re buying a direct Proenza Schouler runway rip-off, that studded belt, a horrifying copy of the white Ralph Lauren suit, all topped off of course with the Dior gladiators she wears throughout the movie.

The best part though - when you click on the item it says “In the style of Sarah Jessica Parker.” We too can get a bit carried away with characters, (ahem, Gossip Girl), but seriously?

I've been waiting for someone to copy that proenza vest for so long, but why oh why did they have to make it so low cut?

I don't really shop there, but isn't the whole point of ASOS to be like 90% knockoffs? It stands for As Seen On Stars, right?

i don't get how they went to far... sex and the city inspired women across the world to emulate their lifestyle but i doubt everyone went out to buy proenza... personally i think satc is so pervasive in culture because women see the fashion and can get the same style at their price point so really its like a free ad for satc.

If you're inspired by Carrie Bradshaw - buy something vintage

How can any of those clothes be "in the style of Sarah Jessica Parker," when they're supposed to be in the style of her character? And would it be so bad to actually say "inspired by Dior/Proenza, etc?" This one's pretty bad.

I love a little quirky fashion here and there, but throughout most of the movie, Carrie was dressed like a colourblind nut. Not a style I'd emulate.
