Agyness to Act

Jun 24, 2008 @ 1:01pm

agyness is colorful.jpgIt's official. The Brits are completely obsessed with Agyness Deyn.

The model of the moment turned singer turned actor will be appearing in a Doctor Who Christmas Special on the BBC. We're not exactly sure what this special entails, but according to The Mirror, Doctor Who remains "the Beeb's [that's BBC] jewel in the crown," so apparently it's kind of a big deal, winning ratings since it was revived in 2005.

We're happy for Aggy, but seriously, how far is too far? In an industry constantly looking for the next big thing, abandoning what's passe, oversaturation can be career ending.

The move is particularly risky considering Christopher Bailey reportedly dropped the model from the upcoming Burberry campaign due to "overexposure." But we feel like she has to have heard the message loud and clear too many times to not know what a Christmas TV special could do to her. Could she be planning a total career crossover?

Kylie was the guest star on last year's Doctor Who Christmas special. So yes, very big deal.

Does it really matter? Why should she turn down great opportunities that could help her diversify herself? Especially when it has already been made obvious that the same people who once loved her for her "freshness" now think she's overexposed? I say she's smart for leaving the industry before it leaves her!

I heard her sing in a video posted on You Tube and she wasn't bad. Sort of Debbie Harry-ish.

yeah I've heard her singing on the friday night project and it's not painful - in fact it's pretty damn good!!! However, she is beginning to get like when you hear a song you love loads on the radio then you can't stand it. shame really

That is the most awesome thing I've heard in forever! I cannot wait to see it. So happy. And it is a very big deal. Very big.

again, I don't get how he drops her for overexposure but he didn't mind Kate Moss being the face of his company (pre-coke scandal). Maybe he's going for something different these days, but to non-fashion people (and non-english) I don't think she's super recognizable. Few of my friends know who I'm talking about until I show them who she is.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this year's 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special was already shot and Agyness was nowhere to be seen. I suppose she could grace the 2009 Christmas special, but I doubt the show's producers are planning that far ahead. Typical tabloid 'journalism' - shoddy.

Great blog, by the way.

it's the British people who made her a celebrity!?!?!

YUCK! I'm sick of Agyness's image being forced in our face from magazines to the USA because the British people is obsessed with her! Keep her over there! Stop rubbing her image in our faces over here in America. ppppppplease!

I love Aggy and Doctor Who is one of my favorites! This is way too exciting.

And yes, to confirm even more, being guest on the Christmas Special is a pretty big deal...

No, actually, we're not. We're as sick of her as everyone else.

Brits are sick of her too! That's like saying Americans are obsessed with Paris Hilton when in reality you just can't get rid of her!!! They are American and British viruses that just won't die!

I'm with guest @ 11.33- we're sick of her as well (at least those of who actually know who she is- she's hardly a household name) I sincerely hope this is a rumour and nothing more, I'd hate if she turned up on my beloved Doctor Who.

well, if agyness was serious, christopher bailey might not have dropped her entirely. she commented she was still part of the burberry family and would be shooting for burberry's new fragrance (not 'the beat'). according to telegraph/tfs.
