Am I Blue?

blue nails.jpg We haven’t entertained the notion of blue nails since Clueless, but a week of gallery hopping may be enough to change our minds:

In the past seven days, we’ve spotted blue nails paired with Alexander Wang’s blue chiffon tank top, blue nails on some visitors at Mary Boone and Rivington Arms, and blue nails at the “hot” new club Santo’s House, which we keep calling Santa’s Village by mistake.

Above are blue nails as seen on an intern, and blue nails by Dana Veraldi, the photographer and graphic designer behind the Deer Dana creations (including the Agyness t-shirt).

You’ll note it’s not the same navy blue spread by Chanel and Dior this February, but instead something closer to Smurf.

The BEST color blue is at Sephora, you need two coats but it is amazing. Blogged about it here:

I've been wearing a blue nail polish that color since the fall(after I saw a picture of rihanna wearing it). I've been using the sephora color for a couple of months now, and if you use it make sure to use a base coat first, or else it will stain your nails very badly.

I've also heard dove gray is like the new pale pink. what does everyone think of this? would you wear dove gray? I have been contemplating a light lavendar as a variation on that.

I went to a nail salon and picked out a sky blue for my manicure and a hot pink for my toes. At first the guy looked at me like I was crazy, but then we got into a conversation about the importance of having fun and not taking your self too seriously. My blue nails remind me of middle school sleepovers and I was so happy to see a post here!

I started wearing blue in the winter. OPI has a cute color. Frankly though I am much more excited about yellow! I first got yellow for Summer 2006 when I saw a cute girl from japan at the store I worked at with sparkle yellow polish. I got some from Revlon asap, and the new OPI collection has yellow as well.

They have a wonderful variety at Urban Outfitters, by L.A. Girl Flare Brights for 5 bucks a pop.

"We haven't entertained the notion of blue nails since Clueless"

Really? because I seem to remember Fashionista pushing robins egg blue on their readers a few months ago. There was a post about it being on Charlotte Ronson's models...
If you are going to recycle ideas, don't pretend they are new.

I started using China Glaze's For Audrey (Tiffany-esque blue) last fall, and I love it. With two coats, it looks especially nice.

ahh! this is so bizarre!
i just bought a bottle of this color and painted my nails just to reminisce on the whole seventh grade scene. i thought i was being a little weird but i love it! every time i look at my hands the color looks so cute and bright.
so crazy that i came across this the day after i painted them! i thought i was the only one.
i'm also loving lilac nails...

Why the surprise? Y'all are the ones who blogged last winter about the "robin's egg blue" all the models were wearing with the spring '08 looks.

I can understand following fashion trends (but not overdoing them, still), but nail color trends? You can wear a nail color in any shade you like and in one that flatters you and your outfit. It makes it all the more lame when you spot somebody with the exact same "of the month" nail color because you realize you're not the only "trendy" hipster around and EVERYONE got the memo.
I honestly just don't see the attraction.

yeah, they've been selling that shade at sephora for forever. unfortunately, someone borrowed mine and never gave it back. it's a lovely color, though.

I love sephora's blue nail polish. I used it just the other week and got loads of compliments (even from my grandfather...).

This reminds me of that House of Style when Amber Valletta & Shalom Harlow partnered with Todd Oldham to decorate street-found furniture with Hard Candy. I miss the 90s.

The only blue I like is Blue Satin. I hate aqua colored nails-they look tacky and childish. Also, you need decent nails to pull it off.

Maybe for my toes...I've been painting them a shade of blue for years now, close to that or one I found at the nail salon called "Blue Suede Shoes". It freaks people out at first but because of my skin tone--I'm strong coffee-colored :), it works. Now I'm wearing Russian Navy from OPI...now THAT color rocks! It looks blue, black or deep purple, depending on who looks at it and the angle you look at it. I might find a color like this one for my toes...but in my profession, people would stare too hard at that on my fingers!

what kinds of jobs do you guys have where you can have blue nails? obviously you guys do not work in professional or business environments, or you only paint your nails when you know no one you know from work could ever see you.

i didn't do the blue yet but i am working lilac now, and i like it.

professional and business environment doesn't necessarily translate into uptightness in every situation. i love it when i see a spunky nail polish on a woman with a rather formal attire.
