Arlenis, in Vogue

arlenis us vogue pull.jpgThis just in from our Inbox:
Arlenis hamming it up alongside Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn in July’s Vogue!
We knew she was being shot for the mag, but we didn’t put together how amazing that would be for her until we actually saw it.
Picture it – this girl was just heading to class just a few weeks from her nineteenth birthday not even three months ago, and now she’s smiling in the pages of one of the glossiest publications in the world, walking runways all over, and who knows what next.
So, July issue of US Vogue – check. July issue of Vogue Italia? Hm…

She is ridiculously beautiful

She’s beautiful

How does one get a copy of the Vogue Italia? I need it to live.

YAY

stunning beauty.

… this makes me so happy.
another small step. good job Vogue.

I love her eyebrows

She blows Jourdan out of the water.

omg, chanel and jourdan hand in hand? are these two getting along or are models just really great actresses?

I think Arlenis is gonna blow both Chanel & Jourdan out of the water.

chanel and jourdan were inseperable backstage at the dior resort show. taking photos of one another, etc. i think they’re pals.

umm how did you get your issue already?
i’m in Soho and am having a HELL of a time finding it..please share?
i just called the mag shop on Lafayette and they only just got the June issue…

oh wow. she even looks healthy. i’m a fan.

once again, the comparison of the black models. why won’t she blow coco or karly out of the water?

lucky, lucky!!!

Modupe ? Getting Along? I mean come on! Why wouldnt they? The industry loves to pit black models against one another as in Tyra and Naomi. Leave it be! Of course they get along. How many white fashion models are hand and hand in a magazine! Ughhh
And yeah Arlenis blowing Chanel and Jourdan out of the water??? She will blow these frail pale white models out of the water before Chanel or Jourdan..stop with the racism and thinking that there is only room for one black model!

this is off topic and a downer but did anyone see the latest entry for supreme’s new blog. it just really disturbed me to see this disgusting comparison

if fashion is trying to convince the world they’re not racist i would think they’d think twice before perpetuating sad insulting stereotypes.
but on a lighter note all of the girls look beautiful in the editorial and hopefully they have much more work coming in the future!

All three models are beautiful esp. Jourdan.

I think I may have interpreted the above comments wrong, it seems normal to compare them if theyre posing together–I just dislike random comparisons that only foster divisiveness between black and white models. Sorry if I got it wrong!

ohmygosh arlenis is gorgeous. i like the rest of the photos too. although jourdan’s facial expression is kind of weird in the second photo, am i the only one that thinks this? i think its just this photo though cuz ive seen other pics of her where she looked stunning

ugh. so beautiful it’s DEADLY.
we need to start some sort of network to track down Vogue Italia issues.

Arlenis isn’t even black; she’s Dominican. The modeling industry just loves grouping the few non-white models it has together.

a lot of dominican and hispanic people do have african descendants, so she is really just as “black” as an african american seeing t6hat most AA people are mixed.

she is stunning!

She IS black, but she is latina black, not as the afroamerican blacks.
If she would’ve lived in the US she would be part of the latino’s community.

nobody questioned her latin culture but race is based on heritage and not culture alone.it’s not as if all people with african decent automatically have one culture in common whether they live in north american, south america, africa, europe where ever. but she does have african heritage in common with “black” americans. racial categories are basically social constructs anyway. many people are mixed with european, native american/ first nation’s, and african and considered black. she is dominicana but the latin world isn’t any more colorblind than the anglophone world with all the categories (blanca, canela, triguena, morena, mulata, negra etc.) people are put under based on skin tone which are basically glorified caste systems, in my opinion.
