Cosmo Has an Adventure in Copyright

sex-city6.jpg Today's WWD reports that Hearst is suing a new Vegas hotel chain over their name:

Cosmopolitan.

The magazine giant thinks Vegas women will confuse the hotel with its magazine, and think that a tacky oasis of bikini waxes, nameplate necklaces, and one night stands will compromise the integrity of their pages, which are filled with bikini waxes, nameplate necklaces, and one night stands.

You can see where we're going with this, so we'll stop.

But just like Jordache getting touchy over Gossip Girl's "XOXO" tagline, this new crackdown on the Cosmo brand might have bigger implications:

For instance, what happens to the drink?

Can Hearst sue HBO for name-dropping Carrie Bradshaw's favorite cocktail? Will New York bartenders simply rename it "The Bradshaw" or "The Big" or the "You Must Be a Tourist Because You're Drinking This"?

And furthermore, when do we get to sue The Soap Network for their awful Fashionista Diaries?!

W magazine lost a suit against W Hotels when they tried the same thing. Cosmopolitan magazine doesn't have a chance!
