Estée Lauder Makes Vibrating Mascara

estee lauder turbolash.jpgWe’ve never understood vibrating toothbrushes. We’ve always wondered who these people are that won’t do the up-and-down brush motion with their hands, and need an appliance to actually do the brushing movement for them.

So when we read in WWD this morning that Estée Lauder is coming out with TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara, a battery-operated, vibrating mascara, the same questions popped into our heads:

Why does it need to vibrate? Couldn’t you just do the sweeping motion on your own? How will it get those tiny lashes in the inner corners? Can you poke your eye out? Wouldn’t you just end up going over the TurboLash’s work with a dry brush to spread the mascara out evenly? And won’t our boyfriend look at us like we’re crazy when we get ready in the morning?

Lauder claims that there’s “a relationship between vibration, length, volume, separation and curl,” and that lashes separate for perfect mascara application the instant the vibrating brush touches your lash line.

As unlikely and unnecessary as this all sounds, we know we’ll probably be at Saks sometime after it launches there exclusively in July. We’re suckers for “mascara technology.” But this product goes for $30, a full $7 above the mascara we’ve considered to be the best for several years, DiorShow.

Are we really ready to go there?

Oh guest 9:41, you totally beat me to it. Right in the eye. . . this sounds like first place for the bad idea of the year.

I think vibrating mascara is just a accident waiting to happen. I think I will leave this alone and do my usual two step process of Rimmel eye magnifer, and two face lash injection

I think they already have a few mascaras like this from no-name brands. I'll have to read up on the technology on this before I consider buying it...but Estee Lauder usually has awesome stuff.

I'd try it out, but only under the condition that I don't have to pay $30.

I don't like DiorShow too much. It's very heavy and it weighs your eyelashes down like crazy.

Vibrating mascara=weird and unnecessary. But vibrating toothbrushes actually get your teeth cleaner than a regular brush ever could! My dentist really recommends them. And clean teeth are always in fashion :-)

I agree with above guest, DiorShow is too thick and stiff. I'm a Shu Uemura girl myself, it's completely magical.

I suppose that using vibrating mascara would prevent chicks from attempting to apply mascara in the car. good, no?

There's really nothing left to do to mascara - they've made it waterproof, smudge proof, offered it in multiple colors, different wand/brush sizes, offered formulas that lengthen, thicken, and on and on and on. I think this whole vibrating mascara trend is just a desperate attempt to come up with something new.

P.S. DiorShow is AAAHHHmazing. I won't use anything else.

yet ANOTHER example of how the makers and marketers of products for women think we're idiots - and how so many of us fall quietly in line.

what an ABSURD idea - because the free market was designed so we didn't have to wiggle our mascara wand from right to left on the accord of our own, starvation atrophied muscles?

GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN.

I'm assuming this thing doesn't vibrate as much as the toothbrushes. 'Cause otherwise it would really be a bad idea. I'd end up blinking as soon as the mascara brush hits my eye and then have black mascara all over my eye :P

Willing to try it out, though, when I'm well equipped with a hat and big, dark sunglasses and walking by one of the testers.

If the mascara isn't any good I guess it can double as a pocket rocket. Sex sells! Hahahaha.

I don't know about the mascara or razors, but my dad has Parkinson's and would have difficulty brushing his teeth if not for the vibrating toothbrush - he has trouble doing both motions (up and down, back and forth) at once

I thought that it had a timer that vibrated to warn you to get to the ladies and touch up your face, you know, planned obsolescence!
