Adventures in Copyrights: Miu Miu, No No

Jun 19, 2008 @ 12:23pm

miu miu asos dress.jpgASOS has just put up an "in the style of Daisy Lowe" dress, also known as the Miu Miu mini that's been everywhere recently. The "not-too-dissimilar version" (that's a round about way of saying knock-off) is available for 38 pounds and comes in black and white.

Besides the fact that this dress is far less cute than the original, we're wondering why ASOS would try to imitate a dress that was featured in the brand's spring ad campaign, not to mention in several notable editorials and even some magazine covers already - aren't they just a little late?

And besides, the silhouette and length don't work when you take all the costume out and try to make it "wearable". It's just not that kind of dress. So why bother?

it's obviously not as great as the original, but i don't think it's horrible.

i know this may seem a little TOO pop-culture, but..

i think either danity kane got great knock-offs or miu miu custom made this dress for their tour in three new colorways (black, white & grey).

I have the Topshop skirt that resembles this Miu Miu look...it's a pretty good knock off, especially seeing this Asos wannabe. Ewww...

I mean the Miu Miu one is obviously preferable and I think pretty awesome but this one is cute and affordable. If you weren't a fashion addict but liked cute dresses you'd probably want it and not know the difference honestly.
The topshop skirt knockoff is much better than this one though.
I know you guys hate knockoffs (I only hate knockoff bags) but the Miu Miu is out of reach for MOST people. Why can't they get a similar version at their own price range?

Is the Top Shop skirt still available online? I didn't come across it, but I'd love someone to link it for me.

The MIU MIU is too adorable, and paired with the right shoes, I think it can even be sexy. I saw a girl at Barneys wearing it and she looked like a figure skater dominatrix. Needless to say, it was a good look.

Cheers to Kara. I have to agree that knock off bags are a definite no no. I live in the sunny and expensive state of Cali. Some things I know I will only wear once and I don't want to spend a fortune on it.....especially in this economy. You just have to be selective and make sure that the fit is good to make sure that your inexpensive top or dress doesn't look cheap with your REAL bags, shoes, etc.

I don't have a problem with this dress at all, I think it's a good wearable alternative to the Miu Miu one. It probably is a bit late in the season for it to come out, but in non-fashion land, it's still only the beginning of summer...

yea i love the knock off, i agree that its lost alot of the genius of the miu miu original, but be realistic, its still really cute, wearable, and the shape would probably work, it looks like a jay godfry dress, put a bomber with it.
