Orange You Glad It's Marc?

Jun 12, 2008 @ 11:59am

marc by marc orange tank rip off.jpgAlongside Heritage 1981, ForLove21 and Twelve by Twelve, Forever 21 needs a "We Worship the Ground Marc Jacobs Walks On" section.

It would overflow with a variety of subtle, blatant and bad rip-offs, including this orange tank top with a placket of white ruffles.

Sure, it has fewer buttons than the adorable Marc by Marc version. And the cotton lacks the subtle ribbing of Marc's. But that's about it.

If you like it, we suggest splurging for the Marc original since those details are what sets it apart from a boring orange tank. And because it's on sale. And because it will last you about ten years longer.

Thanks Christina!

boo, i was all set to buy this shirt at barneys on sale, but i tried it on and the two guys i was with that saw it were repulsed. they said it looked like a clown shirt. i did not buy it to say the least, but it's still so cute.

They are quite similar, but also ugly, in my opinion.

I have the MJ version and wore it just the other day tucked into a black, high waisted tulip skirt. Love it!

Marc by Marc Jacobs shit falls apart just as easily. Don't you know? The M by MJ sweatshop is across the street from the Forever 21 sweatshop!

I like both versions..but this is the type of top that most guys won't get.

i sure as hell don't dress for any guys! i didn't realize so many girls that read this site did that.

i guess i don't have to any more since i'm married, but i really didn't do it when i was single either.

hmm both pretty equally ugly... personally i prefer not to look like i'm wearing a 70s tuxedo shirt while out and about.

I love Marc but 100 plus dollars for a glorified tank top isn't happening sale or not! I would roll with Forever 21 on this on just because designers and the pricing has gotten outrageous...especially designers who don't make one of a kind or hand sewn/made items.

I totally agree with guest @ 12:49 - Marc by MJ stuff is complete schlock. And it is always so completely over the top trendy and terribly made. It is essentially overpriced Forever 21. ICK.

Isn't the whole F21 store a 'we worship the ground Marc Jacobs walks on' section?

It almost looks like the F21 version would fit a little better. The looseness at the bottom would balance all the action at the top. I prefer it w/o the ribbing too.

The thing about Marc by Marc is that it's just so trendy. Most of the pieces aren't as classic or transitional as the stuff in his mainline and go out of style almost as quickly as they came in. So while the F21 version looks a little bit cheaper, I would rather save the $120.00 on something that I won't even consider wearing a season from now.

I agree with Kellynjane would anyone seriously wear this ten years from now?

dear marc lover
i think there is an aspect to all of women that dress for themselves and who like to be found attractive by men

Still too much for something that's "mass" marketed!

i tried to send this in yesterday! oh well i think forever21 is going way to far anymore, i mean they don't even really try to subtly change it with colors.

Mmm. Neither of them are very attractive, but if I had to get one it would be the F21 because it's still $100 cheaper, sale or no sale.

RE: bastylefilegirl - i kind of love that in the off-white/yellow ruffle combo but still way too expensive for a tank.

The Marc version is more attractive, but this is exactly the kind of item I would NOT pay designer prices for. A little cotton top with some detailing on it . . . lovely. I will save my money for more unusual or finely crafted clothing, the like of which could not be replicated even remotely by Forever21/Topshop/H&M/Primark/whatever.

i've been waiting for that tank top to go on sale since forever. I fell in love with it at the beginning of spring, but just couldn't bring myself to pay close to $200 for a tank top. yay!

Very cute but I still would only buy the F21 one. I'd rather buy a nice dinner with my hubby than a shirt.

the F21 is kinda ugly, and the Marc by Marc Jacobs is pretty cute. i wouldnt even consider the F21, due 2 my no-knockoff policy. i feel bad for those who didn't know it was a knockoff (like guest @ 2:31)

and guest @ 12:58: well, not all of us dress to please guys. im single and i don't care wut guys think of wut i wear. i dress 4 me. y wud i want a guy who judged me (negatively) on a (cute) shirt?
