Fashion Is Fun

Stylista + Maggie Rizer = Another Dimension

We knew Stylista would be a dramatic, over-the-top, hysterically unrealistic reality show, but seriously, we didn’t think it would be like this.

Check out the clips if you can’t believe that:

1. Contestants (because that’s what they are) have to set up Maggie Rizer’s hotel suite for her before she flies into town (Bonus info: does that mean Maggie’s in an upcoming ELLE shoot? And going to be on the show?)

2. Contestants are asked to plan Anne Slowey’s niece’s birthday party, to which the niece instructs “don’t embarrass me,” sounding like a cross between that 13-year girl from the bat mitzvah episode on SATC and Monty Burns.

3. A faux clueless contestant says, “I certainly don’t want to be carrying anyone’s coffee” with just enough of a smirk on her face saying even she knows she’ll never live this down.

4. A horrifying contestant says, “If you want to work in this industry, you have to change your body for it.”

Yikes.

I must say I'm very excited to see the show but i just can't help but to laugh at the ones who don't win there going to be shunned from the fashion industry. Reality TV hinders most from what they really want to do in life...I CAN'T WAIT EITHER

I will watch this show but after seeing the trailer, i now know why sometimes when people ask what i do, i get embarassed and choose to say...video store clerk instead.
After the show airs i'm sure i'll be using it frequently.

do you think anne slowey's niece is really that horrible, or that they made her act that way?

fashionista- good call on the "faux clueless" comment...sooo true. these people would rather be famous than actually work in fashion, clearly.

guest @ 1:58- that is really funny, sensible, and something I would do, as well!

Isn't anyone else frustrated by these tv shows!? I work at one of these magazines and in the fashion dept, we have all these girls who apply for internships because they see these shows on tv and think it's going to be glamorous, and then they come in and they are in the closet all day searching for a lost belt and looking like this wasn't what they had hoped for. these shows are honestly screwing things up for us. not to mention, when you work in a demanding fashion dept, the thought of cameras coming in to film and making entertainment out of what is actually your job, is really quite offensive and insulting.

guest @11:36: i realize you are under the impression that working in a fashion department is "demanding," but really, come on. it's not like you're performing neurosurgery or fighting fires or something. frankly, i find it offensive and insulting that you assume a television program about your oh-so-demanding job would be considered entertainment.

A call to The Devil Wears Prada?
There should have been something new out of TV shows these days!

Guest at 5:53 am, no need to belittle those of us that work in fashion. No we're not curing cancer, but the job is definitely demanding.

ok so when that little girl said "Do not embarass me.." the first thought that came into my head was - Are You Serious?? The second thought was - how is this even reality?

This show looks idiotic. I love reality tv (flavor of love marathon=bliss) but it just takes the usual level of reality tv fakery to another level. Anne Slowey is not a thing like that. She can't walk on those shoes. She's just playing the part of Miranda Priestly b/c that's what they need her to be for their purposes. Elle is just shamelessly trying to get publicity-- which it will-- but it's still a bad magazine. Maybe they should concentrate on better photographers and art direction instead of whoring themselves out for anyone who will watch on Ugly Betty and now on this beyond-dumb show.

When is the show airing? Am curious about how real vs how fake it will be. All the characters seem exaggerated, esp Slowey, which is perfect for reality tv. Can't wait!

I love how you refer to the girl with the fake boobs and the awful voice as horrifying. I know her and she truly is just about the worst person I have ever met.

How do you know her? I know her too. I've known her for 9 years. She's my best friend. I also know that she has very few enemies in this world because she is truly one of the sweetest people I know. She is also hilarious. If you look at her bio she's also very well educated and as you watch the show because you are obviously obsessed with her (hence the exact same comments on youtube from closed accounts) you will learn that not only is she talented but she's also down to earth and honest. It's amazing how brave people get on the internet. She has so many people rooting for her because she represents something that none of them do-she's not an elitist snob. Her voice is not horrifying, she was crying probably because she was forced to be with people just like you. =) Have a nice day and proceed as you wish.

I know her because I went to school with her, and have unfortunately been bumping into her periodically for years. Because I know her, and several others who have suffered this same misfortune, I am quite positive that you are mistaken that she has very few enemies. I know only a handful of people who can stand to be in the same room with her. Also, why don't you look at any of the other posts on this site about Stylista. NO ONE can stand her personality (the fact that she only cares if she if "f*ckable") and her awful voice. Even the author of this blog refers to her as horrifying. As for closed youtube accounts, every single one on that video is closed, including Katie's. No, she is not an elitist snob, she is poor white trash with no class, who dresses and acts like a complete whore. I don't know why you defend her using her bio- that makes her sound like a total idiot. And she didn't complete a year of law school.

And while you're at it, look at pretty much any other blog on the internet about Stylista, and see what kind of impression
she gives off...not a very positive one. For example; http://jezebel.com/5057614/do-you-have-to-be-thin-to-work-in-fashion-stylista-seems-to-think-so
That is just one of MANY, not to mention the people who know her and consider her a miserable person. I personally know that she is totally self centered, and completely out of touch with reality. She even admits she has a big head and, come on, anyone with two ears and a brain can tell her voice is incredibly irritating. She cries all the time because she is irrationally sensitive and thinks the world revolves around her.
