Supes, Supersized

Jun 10, 2008 @ 3:30pm

In honor of Fall 2008's return of the supermodel, we found a fun video for everyone to watch over and over again.

Check out the clip if you want to see some majors from the 90's do what they do best - walk the runway. There's no talking in this one, so don't bother with sound - it's just smiles and trivia.

It begins icy blonde with Nadja, Karen Mulder and Elle, then come Naomi, Christy, Helena Carla Bruni, and then it finishes with Eva Herzigova doing an impersonation of Marilyn Monroe.

We don't know if we just described the video, or some kind of culinary dish, but here goes...

Where is Claudia?

Anyways, it's nice to see them actually smiling on the runway!

they definitely had - or were allowed to have - a lot more personality back then, no?

long live christy t. aside from being the most beautiful/least-photoshopped model ever, my friend just met her at the jackson hole film festival and said she's truly one of the nicest people he's ever met.

isn't it amazing how much healthier these women looked than some of the models out there today - I mean still unrealistically perfect bodies, but nary a jutting bone to be seen...

Wow, sometimes I forget that models actually used to have bodies a mere 10 years ago...

I'd forgotten how drop dead gorgeous, sexy and glamorous models used to be. They were svelt, but more full-bodied, and they all had amazing smiles. They all look infinitely more mature and sophisticated on the runways, probably because they're not 14 year olds.

I also LOVE the antics and the personality that you see on the runway. It's all theater.

Even the biggest names in modeling today don't look like that, and the supermodels are so average, they're not even household names anymore (the average person doesn't know who Daria or Jessica Stam are; the average person does know who Cindy and Naomi are) .

I accept that the trends and styles have shifted over the years, but I wonder if modeling has become TOO attainable. The current crop of girls gives people the impression that anyone can be a model as long as they're tall, thin and have at least an average face. Models, who used to be elite and inspire envy in women everywhere (which is what sells), are now mass produced (which is odd for an industry that is supposedly so competitive).

I think that the modeling industry needs to go back to the glamazons.

How could they not include Linda?!
There was a certain sophistication about the supermodels back then, which is not to say that the Stam, Daria and Caroline are not fab in their own right, they are, it's just different somehow. The girls today don't look as though they are having any fun, except maybe Agy.
For all of Naomi's really bad behaviour, she is fantastic on the runway. With all of her bad press, I'd almost forgotten.

Nadja and Karen are awesome! that really was when true beasuty was on the catwalks, not just anorexic ethereal children.

hello, claudia schiffer?

anyhow, this video shows how bland and unimpressive most of the current "top" models are.
