The Great Mascara Swap

Chanel Iman And now, a note from Faran...

Last night, I couldn't find my mascara, so I grabbed my Lancome liquid eyeliner and gently painted my upper and lower lashes with its little, skinny brush.

I think it's the best eye makeup I've ever had.

Instead of sticky clumps or threads, I just got a row of simple black lashes that looked quite natural and a little bit shiny.

I think it's going to be my new routine, but I'm curious - does everyone else do this, too, and I'm just clueless? Or have I stumbled onto something so obvious, it's perfect - you know, like the "xoxo" tagline in Gossip Girl?

Lemme know. And to the left is Chanel Iman, whose prowess with liquid eyeliner is astounding, considering when I was seventeen, I could barely use a hairbrush. Seriously, there are yearbook pics to prove it.

What an interesting idea. That has never occurred to me. It doesn't run or smudge?

Oh, and, Chanel does her own make-up?

There is cake mascara available.. It's not a new idea.. but it all depends on ease of use.. and convenience~

I tend to wear just eyeliner instead of mascara. Mascara is a huge pain for smearing and clumping and so on. Plus my lashes are already dark. Sometimes I'll try an eyelash curler for lift, but it doesn't last long. Eyeliner just makes your lashes seem thicker. I use the all-day revlon kind. It is pretty good, although by the end of the day it will have smeared a little.

as a makeup artist, using liquid eyeliner on lashes is great in a pinch when you don't have anything else

it's also perfect for giving you that dark definition without volume which can be a little much in certain instances (although not for me because in my book bigger is always better in the lash department)

another reverse trick is to use an eyeliner brush to pick up some mascara from the wand and use it as a liquid liner

Thierry Mugler has a fantastic shiny liquid I've been using with the MAC mascara brush (it's a tiny little fan.)
Though I like the liquid, I find it's the fan brush that makes all the difference.

I've tried this before, but it smeared so much even before I left the house. Honestly it was probably because it was cheap. I don't really use liquid liner, but have it lying around just in case. If you're going to use a trick like this a really good liner like NARS is probably best.

for anyone who suffers from smudgy mascara can i tell you about 'blinc'. it's this tube mascara thing, and honestly will not come off unless you put warm water on your eyes and gently pull off the tubes. even makeup remover will not smudge it! think they do eyelinener as well.

I need the volume that comes with mascara--I have long lashes, but they're blond and straight. Just coloring isn't enough; I need the lift. Also, the longer and trashier the eyelashes, the better, as most days it's the only make-up I wear.

I'm a big fan of eyeliner (kohl pencil or liquid) as mascara. Haha, here I was thinking it was my little secret :P

If I am doing intense makeup I'll do this same trick with some of the eyeshadow I'm using on my lids. One of the best times was when I used the green side of NARS's Rated R on my bottom lashes rather than mascara, got lots of compliments on it.

I do the opposite when I can't find my eyeliner- use an angled brush with a bit of my mascara
