Would You Wear This Swimsuit?

Jun 04, 2008 @ 2:10pm

topshop bow bathing suit.jpgI can't stop buying bathing suits. Even though the closest I'll come to taking a dip this summer is spraying myself with water after tanning in Washington Square Park, I still keep a (growing) pile in my closet.

So while perusing Topshop's swim section today, I came across another very cute suit. Love at first click. The skinny blue stripes are a little bit nautical, the bow is just girly enough, and the whole look is very 'I'm vacationing on my yacht this summer.' But my next thought was, would I actually wear a cutout one-piece?

Sure you see lots of these suits strutting down the runway or in some impossibly luxurious magazine spreads, but in real life? Paris Hilton's a big fan, which might tell us a little something, but I've never actually seen one on a real chick, in real time, and I'm not sure how I would feel if I did. There's something about them that comes off as over-the-top, or rather silly - and think of the tan lines!

I think for now, I'll hold off - maybe I'll get it when I purchase that yacht.

But more importantly - would you wear one?

It's funny because the bathing suit at firsst sight seems so revealing. But obviously it has more coverage (not much more), but more than a regular bikini. But at first glance it almost seems 'riskier' than a bikini, although it's really not.

Anyways, i think it's very cute! I don't know if i would wear it, but i do like it. It's very St. Tropez, yacht like you said.

I can't help but notice that J.Crew has incredible bathing suits. Every shape and every color.

I'd definitely wear one and that one is really cute! Not really to the beach, unless I was at a resort, but to a classy pool party it would be a hit. And you'd look more fashionable than the rest of the bikini gang ;)

i like it a lot -- it sort of looks like an anchor! A crazy-sounding person on whowhatweardaily.com left a comment about these suits that actually made sense, that is, that the cut-outs definitely create curves, so, if adding curves is not what you are after, stay away. Other than that caveat, I think these suits are just like any other -- there are adorable versions and gross versions...ok, I think I have said enough about this subject to officially sound like the crazy wwwd commenter!

I feel like this suit is to Summer '08 what blouses with no shoulders or sheer sleeves were to the late 80s early 90s.

"even more importantly - i hope you are wearing sunscreen when you are tanning in the park!"

This sentence doesn't make sense. You can't protect yourself effectively against the sun and still get tan. Tanning is sun damage.

Anyway, a 2:30pm, I think it looks like an anchor too...and I wouldn't wear it. I like cut-out swimsuits but only when the middle part isn't quite so skinny.

I definitely don't have the body for this suit--like someone else pointed out, it's for someone who would want to create curves. It is cute, though.

I have one and I love it. I always get compliments, from guys and girls. I don't have a "model body" either. I'm 5'3 and weight a little over a hundred pounds but it definitely adds a silhouette that is both flattering and very feminine.

I have found that the cut out suits have immense hanger appeal but are more tricky than you would think to pull off. It draws attention no doubt to your hips - if you are hip heavy it's not flattering, if you are boyish it only accentuates that, if you have some cushion there it's like a blinking arrow...i think it takes a slender slightly curved women with just enough padding to be sexy to make it work...so if that is you - go for it.

The suit is really cute, but hard to pull of. Bonus points for the bow!

And yes, you get a perfectly fine tan, even though your wearing sunblock! My mother's a cancer nurse, so i'm covered in spf 50 every summer, and i'm almost always the most tanned of my friends. So not wearing sunblock is just plain stupid.

I want to try one on to get a feel for how it looks first before I make a personal decision on it. But I love the idea, although I've never seen one worn in real life by a real girl. And I agree with the others who think it's channels Blair.

I have one by Victoria's Secret Body collection in pink and it was reasonably priced. My boobs don't fit in it right because if has no bralette so I ordered it in black from Newport News (also reasonably priced both around the $30 dollar mark) and hope this one fits because I love these suits. To Jac: I think Delia's or Alloy sells these suits in long and short torso.

Do it! Do it! They are seriously so slimming. The cut out makes your waist look tiny!

I was dubious at first, but now I own a couple of them. They are sexy and unique. Aussie label Zimmermann (my fave label) makes THE best cut out swimsuits (their clothes are hot as well). I own about six of their swimsuits now.

As a slightly over the top glamour girl, I have to say I love th cut-out suit. There is something so sexy about the peek-a-boo skin effect. More fabric = more cut-out = more risqué.

Ok, but seeing as I'm over the top my one piece cut-out consists of a leopard and gold Guess version. And yes, it is possible to keep the skankyness to a minimum.

How about this question instead: would you wear a two-piece if you were the mother of a two-year old whose time spent in your belly caused unsightly stretch marks that are as present today as they were the day you gave birth? To this question, I answer 'no'. However, I would (and do) wear the little number at question - the suit is cute, covers just enough to be still be tasteful (pregnancy wounds and all), and won't budge when I'm racing after the kid on the beach. Perfecto! Oh, and I suppose tan marks are a non-issue for me because, really, I haven't any intention of prancing around sans shirt, save the beach - in this suit.
