Season 5 of Project Runway starts at 9 sharp on Wednesday. Needless to say, we’re just a tiny bit excited.
Because, really, what are they going to come up with this season? Not much will beat raiding the Hershey’s store and making dresses out of Twizzlers, wilting corn husks and beach chairs. Today Bravo announced the cast for PR5 and we’ve made a few predictions:
Jerry, a 32 year old from Montana, will be this season’s Daniel Franco - constantly be promoting his vision for his brand FORM.
Joe, a Parsons grad from way back, will try and pull the “I’ve been in the industry for 18 years” card as an excuse for being bossy.
Blayne, “Seattle’s Most Stylish Male”, will try and be Christian Siriano…and fail horribly.
Our guesses for the top three:
Emily, she worked for Jeremy Scott and we love him. Plus, she looks like she won’t take crap from the other contestants.
Wesley, because he’s young, cute and worked for Marc, which means he has real talent.
Leanne, she looks quiet and reserved but we’re guessing that means serious sewing skills and little drama.
Trust us on this one.

We love Prada. We love black. We love gold. And we love the 70’s.
Unfortunately, a combination of all of the above doesn’t necessarily make for a fabulous pair of shoes. See Prada’s Fall ‘08 stompers. They had us asking “Why Miuccia, why?”
That’s when we decided to explore another aspect of ‘Adventures in Copyright’. As in, what happens when the fake is actually better than the original?
A perfect example of this can be found at Topshop, where you can buy a similar shoe to the one that marched down Prada’s spring runway. The directly inspired, less expensive shoe improves upon its more dramatic muse and not just because it’s more wearable.
We still won’t buy it. And we don’t think it’s ok. But we’re man enough to admit, it’s just a bit cuter.
Let’s call it ‘Improvements in Copyright’.

“Sandals with socks are certainly up there. Generally speaking, it’s footwear trends. I mean, the Croc—it looks like a plastic hoof. How can you take that seriously? I know it’s comfortable; I understand that. But if you want to dress to feel as though you never got out of bed, don’t get out of bed.” —Tim Gunn’s thoughts on the worst fashion trends, in Time Magazine.
Stephanie Seymour’s one busy lady these days.
Aside form her usual supermodel duties and raising four kids, the perfect body is about to debut as expert fashion contributor of the all new Interview Magazine in their much anticipated September re-launch.
So while we’re busy waiting for her sartorial guidance, we’ll be plastering the Chantelle lookbook on our office walls for figure guidance.
It arrived in our mailboxes this afternoon. We can’t stop staring at her and it’s only fair we share it with you.
The black and white, NYC centic images might be simple - but she makes us want to spend $100 on a pair of underwear.
And after all, isn’t that what makes a supermodel?

Got Her: About to hop on her bike and ride down West Broadway.
Stalked Her: Because her overalls, wayfarers, and little black bike were an adorable combination. Also, we had to catch her before she rode away!
Shot Her: Because her overalls were a modern take on an old classic that most would condemn to the farm - and who doesn’t love a girl on a bike?
She Says: “I love my overalls. They’re so comfy!”
We Say: Cute + comfy + bike = a new summer favorite.

Looks like Karl Lagerfeld has some competition:
It seems his new / old muse, Claudia Schiffer, won’t just be posing for him at Chanel anymore.
We hear Ms. Schiffer just booked the campaign for Dolce + Gabbana’s resort collection, which we should see this December in major fashion books.
But will this include a swimsuit shot?
We can only hope -
Just because Ms. Schiffer is over 40 doesn’t mean she can’t rock a designer bikini better than most major yoga devotees.
But what will Karl think?!

“They want a waist where God intended; they don’t want flashes in embarrassing places and are bemused by garments with three sleeves. They also want exclusivity, so most couture houses have an unwritten policy of limiting sales of any £100,00-plus garment to one per continent.” —The Times UK on couture’s customers.
If Hermès said dance, would you?
We obviously would, and so would Juliette Binoche. Well, she is. We just don’t really get why.
WWD says, “Hermès has asked Juliette Binoche to dance. The newly created Hermès foundation has tapped the actress for an upcoming spectacle choreographed by Akram Khan.”
The show will travel around the world’s major capitals throughout the next year to raise money for said foundation. Only, we can’t find the foundation. Hubert Guerrand-Hermès started a foundation for peace twelve years ago - is the new foundation for the arts?
Will Juliette wear looks from Fall ‘08 for her interpretive dancing? If so, we think the paisley prints would be pretty.
Though it’d obviously be best if Gaultier designed an entirely new wardrobe to be auctioned off post dance for the charity.
We’ll see you at the New York show.
Nick Knight, fashion photographer, Showstudio director and Kate Moss friend, photographed Bottega Veneta’s upcoming fall campaign says WWD.
It’s the first time the brand has partnered with Knight - they use a different photog each season - but Tomas Maier chose him because he’s, “followed his work for years and always admired his sense of adventure.”
The ads feature models, (yay!), a color palette matching the collection and an “intriguing compostion”. No word yet on who gets to wear Maeir’s pretty dresses, but in true Knight fashion, there will be a video posted on Bottega’s website documenting the process.
Fingers crossed there’s a video on Showstudio, too - that one highlighting the models, the clothes, a little bit of Tomas and guaranteed to hold us rapt through at least three viewings.
Rihanna’s landed a major international campaign.
While Chanel, Prada and Louis Vuitton are re-living the 90’s, Gucci’s chosen the twenty-year-old pop star to front their new ad campaign for UNICEF just six months after her lauded performance at Gucci’s fall fashion week bash.
Rihanna, who’s posed for Clinique Happy, Covergirl and H&M’s “Fashion Against AIDS” campaign, will star in “Tattoo Heart”, a collection of ads for the children’s charity in which she’ll wear limited edition Gucci for UNICEF pieces.
Frida Giannini hand picked her because she, “felt a musician and a beautiful woman was the perfect icon for this campaign.”
True. And we’re all for a good cause. But is it wrong that we worry she’ll be contracted to wear Gucci on every red carpet and abandon the up and coming labels she’s been so good about supporting?
Stylists, take note!
