Agyness To Fall Naked From a Building

Agyness DeynYes, the profile on Katie Grand in yesterday’s Guardian is very interesting, especially to those young stylists, image makers, and wannabe editors who should realize that curating one’s friends at an early age is just as important and insanely hard as picking one’s outfits.

But of course, we were totally distracted by Katie’s rise to fashion fame - founding POP Magazine, sharing creative credit with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, discretely not dropping Giorgio Armani’s name despite the fact that she’s also their stylist - and way more consumed by this paragraph:

“When I met Grand she’d just been to New York for a POP shoot with the art photographer Ryan McGinley and model Agyness Deyn. She’d never worked with McGinley but he said he’d like to photograph Agyness, whom of course Grand knew, and Grand suggested they should do some nudes, because Agyness had never done a nude shoot, and McGinley agreed. ‘And then a week later he sent me this reference photograph of kids falling off a fire escape - it was from the 1950s I think - and said he’d really like to have her falling. And naked. So we ended up with two stunt men and Agyness jumping naked from five stories onto a huge huge crash mat. It was incredible.

Say it with us now: O. M. G.

How they managed to pull off a naked girl falling - over and over again - from a fire escape on a public street in New York, with no indecent exposure charges, is a totally different matter.

Yeah the paps caught her on film doing this and she's not quite as pretty naked. The photos were up on egotastic a while back.

I actually shot (along with a friend) Agyness Deyn nude that day as she jumped off the fire escape! The photoshoot took place at 61st and Woodside out in Queens. They had rented out the courtyard of an apartment building where they positioned an inflatable cushion beneath a second story fire escape. Agyness was wearing a white bathrobe and standing on a ladder. She then stripped naked and jumped into the cushion.

The original film permit said Agyness was going to be in roller skates.

The kid photo was shot by photographer Stanley J. Forman and won a Pulitzer Prize. The image captured Diana Bryant, and a very young girl, Tiare Jones, falling from a fire escape that collapsed during a fire. Diana broke Tiare's fall, but unfortunately she died.

You can see the 1975 photo here:

The photos can be seen here (although I(doubt Egotastic paid for their use):

Maybe its just me...probably is, but this seems a little tasteless. To base a photo shoot on a picture of a woman falling to her death. For shame, fashion peeps, for shame.

@ 11:25 guest - i thought the exact same thing. the way it reads in the text above - "kids falling off a fire escape" - i thought it was like a joke, a prank, etc. something fun. not people dying escaping an actual fire.

Yeah, the nudes were on Egotastic awhile ago. I know that is serious Fashionista territory so I have no idea how you missed it!
