H, A, Double L, O. Double U, Double E, N Spells... Trend?

black and orange on fall 08 runways.jpgTraditionally a taboo color combination, the pairing of orange and black dominated the runways for Fall 08. Orange accents paired with black ensembles made bold appearances, seen in the high collars at Prada and the opaque tights at Alessandro Dell' Acqua.

Aquascutum, Christian Lacroix, Gaultier and Narciso Rogriguez reversed the new combination, swapping out the traditional little black dress for more vibrant orange creations paired with opaque tights in black and burnt orange.

Moschino Cheap & Chic did their own version of Halloween-chic with a black and orange printed coat, and Comme des Garcons took the trend to new heights with a voluminous tulle skirt and top, finished off with black tights and dreadlocks.

We've always considered black and orange to be a spooky combination worn only on the day of the dead, but since it's now a runway trend, will we start seeing it on all the other days, too?

Day of the dead as in November 1st in Mexico? I guess that could work too. I like it though. It's sort of how black and yellow is so chic even though it's reminiscent of a bee. I get that all the time... Hopefully black and orange will become more accepted and not so Giants or All Hallow's Eve.

Yes! That means I can wear school colors without worrying about fashion!! Or something...

The Comme des Garcons model looks like a cross between a person who has had a tragic Halloween crepe paper and twine accident and an avant garde pumpkin costume for the same holiday.

On the other hand the Narciso dress is awesome. And looks suspiciously like something Chloe Sevigny wore to...something...

That setttles it! I have a fab LBD that is too fun to just wear black opaque tights with. I'm going to wear it with burnt orange tights (if I can find them) and my black patent Mary Jane's.
Can't wait for fall. It may look choppy, but I don't care.

I'm starting to think there are currently no taboos in fashion.
Which I'll admit, seems make things less interesting.

The Lacroix dress is amazing. The black works so well because it allows the brilliant orange to stand out and her legs just fade into the background. PLUS - i love those boots!

And don't forget A.F. Vandevorst! Their collection was straight-up halloween, which was really disappointing in my opinion.

i usually dont have trouble wearing taboo colors together (black & navy, black & brown all look great), but orange & black is hard for me to grasp. I think all of these looks remind me a little too much of those dress-up witch costumes.

Luella's fall 08 ready to wear was also straight-up halloween... there were even witches hats.

There's a town in central NJ where orange and black is de rigueur.

since when does hallouueen spell halloween?
i actually like the color combination on the narciso outfit but i think with the darker shades of orange its too much like a costume for me
