Dovima, Marilyn and Elephants, Oh My!

richard avedon dovima elephants.jpgIf you’re lucky enough to be going to Paris (whether it’s for Fashion Week, a vacation, or you just happened to get on the wrong plane) be sure to see the first French solo exhibition of Richard Avedon, famed fashion photographer and portraitist.

We all remember the stunning Dovima, dripping in Dior and looking oh-so glamorous while posing between a pair of circus elephants - and now you can study it up close and in person.

Why Avedon has had so few solo exhibitions, despite working for Bazaar, Vogue, and The New York Times for several decades, we have not a clue, but here he is now, and so conveniently timed with the arrival of the fashion flock.

We could go on all day about his work but to cut right to the point: The exhibition of his work, ranging from 1946 - 2004 is on display at the Jeu de Paume through Sept. 28th, so if you find yourself in the city of lights for Paris Fashion Week a little early, be sure to catch this exhibition- it’ll be a nice way to ease in.

An elephant with its nose turned up is supposed to be good luck, so that's kinda cool.
