"Sometime you see these girls from Brooklyn carrying Valentino bags that cost $3,000. That makes the show a little irritating." - an administrative assistant in New York, in Ruth LaFerla's article on Gossip Girl style.

When I lived in Brooklyn, I saw plenty of hipsters wearing high priced wares so it isn't totally unrealistic - except she's talking about 14 year olds in Brooklyn, non?

not nearly as irritating though as the assumption that people living in Brooklyn cannot afford $3,000 bags...

i think the comment was targeted at teenagers living in brooklyn, not people there in general.
i do not think any 14 year old little girl should be able to afford a $3000 bag, because unless she's been saving her allowance since she was born, her parents bought it for her and that is just messed up in my world.

Is she implying that people in Brooklyn are too poor to afford nice handbags?
If she is, this woman is just as pretentious and seemingly high-brow as everyone at Fashionista.

It's weird that in the beginning of the season Jenny had to sew her own clothes, but at the end of the season can afford $3,000 bags.

i don't think she meant that people in brooklyn can't afford nice things...i am sure she meant to say that it's irritating that people like jenny on the show who supposedly can't afford the clothes to "fit in" suddenly has a $3,000 bag

Towards the end of the season though, Jenny was selling things (sewing machines, old clothes, stolen dresses, etc.) for money, so it's not that unrealistic that she would be able to afford nice things. Just my guess, but I think that's how she ended up with Valentino bags towards the end of the show (we know Rufus didn't buy them for her- that's for sure!).

I think she might be specifically referring to a Valentino Maison tote that Jenny (who is from Brooklyn, and the viewer is told continuously how she can't afford to spend money on clothes) was seen carrying in one episode.

Sorry, just not into GG style. I always feel like the clothes are wearing the girl when I look at these outfits.
