Three’s a Crowd

erin wasson.jpgTerry Richardson’s just shot Erin Wasson’s new campaign for Tahari.

Really.

He didn’t shoot her for Alexander Wang, not for her jewelry line, not for American Apparel, but for Tahari. And in Washington Heights, no less.

They chose Wasson, “because she is known for her own distinctive style and embodies the Elie Tahari woman,” says Rory Tahari, the brand’s creative director.

True, Erin’s style has, arguably, made her more famous than her modeling. But aren’t Tahari’s customers working in offices and grabbing a conservative dress on their way to a summer home? And aren’t Wasson’s fans dancing on tables in ripped denim and sheer cotton tanks? And doesn’t Terry Richardson make everything just a little bit dirty?

We’re having trouble picturing this.

September issues can’t come soon enough!

you're right. i understand the wasson and richardson combo, but when you throw in tahari in there... what?

i'm guessing the thought is that by including wasson in this campaign we will no longer associate the brand with "grabbing a conservative dress on their way to a summer home."

not a fan.

I realize the point you're trying to make here but I think you need to consider that they have a broader customer base than just conservative wealthy housewives. I'm in my mid-twenties, follow fashion diligently and love Erin Wasson's style. I also happen to work in the conservative, male dominated world of real estate finance and am stuck wearing black suits to work whether I like it or not (I'm lucky I can get away with open toed shoes and no stockings... you'd be amazed what some fashion forward women are stuck wearing in the workplace).

I don't have a lot of options if I want to stay away from Banana Republic and am still years away from bonuses that allow me all the Stella McCartney suits I want; Tahari suits fit well and are pretty high quality for the price. If using someone like Wasson in their campaigns helps their recognition with a younger fashion forward client base then good for them for capitalizing on that opportunity.

Totally agree with guest at 5:42. I had thought it would be a little too stuffy and straight laced for me, but I went in to choose something as a birthday gift that my parents were giving me and actually ended up liking many of the pieces taken out of that context and styled differently. I ended up getting a really great shirt that's quite dramatic and can be paired with a pencil skirt for work or a pair of jeans and boots to dress it down. It seems like the kind of thing I can grow up with, too.

I think it sounds like a great collaboration and will definitely be more inclined to check out the Fall collection knowing that Erin Wasson is endorsing it. She has amazing style! Terry Richardson can do no wrong too! I love his work!
