Would You Highlight Yourself?

Jul 01, 2008 @ 1:51pm

alexander mcqueen resort 09 outlines.jpgWe thought it was weird when we first saw a sort of body contour look at the Miu Miu Fall 08 show. But when we saw it again at McQueen's Resort 09, we were kind of frightened: is this a trend we're going to have to get used to?

Putting aside the question of wearability for a moment, the outfits have the potential to make you look like you instantly dropped ten pounds - Or maybe that's only the case on the models. Either way, the clothes do offer a pretty awesomely slimming optical illusion.

However, as Natalie put it, we're not sure we'd want to wear something that outlines our uterus. And the contours do seem to mimic a skeleton rather than an actual body (which may indicate a whole lot about the fashion industry, but that's a whole other conversation).

But sticking to the issues, could this be doable for daily life? Or even sometimes nightlife? Or is this just another catwalk craze, one that kind of looks like a cross between a cat woman and a speed skater skinsuit?

I think its a sign that everyone has completely run out of ideas.

just another catwalk craze... unless you add some clothes to layer your look. i just can't see someone walking the streets in a body suit by itself.

it reminds me of those t-shirts you see in cheesy tropical locales with the bikini body spray painted on a giant tee.

obviously no one is going to walk down the street in a body suit. A little dress with the same seam details on the side a la YSL Fall 08, on the other hand, could be amazing and flattering.

the model looks like an alien. i'm not sure if that's from the cat-suit or if she really just looks like an alien.

Didn't Lanvin do this for evening gowns, and it came out spectacularly?

i think it would be really cool on pants, but i like how it can be used on the torso to create the cartoonish hourglass bombshell shape as well.
i love the idea!

Hell yes I'd wear it, n add nothing but pumps and a crop leather jacket for the evening. Sorbet orange... or teal?!
The more I think about it the more I want to try it out... I'm pretty shameless about my curves... bring it on!

anyone who bulges even a little bit would not even come close to looking svelt in that thing.

I can see your average person wearing that to yoga or dance class, and your more daring person may wear it... well, anywhere.

hmm i don't know...looking at this i'm seeing this makes me think that this is an evolution of the legging.
i could see this look happening with a few accessories, a jacket, maybe a skirt. i like how it looks though
but i can't see people walking down the street w/just the cat suit unless it was in the dead of night and they were planning to rob someplace

haha i think i would have alot of fun wearing something like that! but it would be better if it was neon pink instead of orange. but it wouldnt exactly be something id wear all the time. i also think it would be cool to see something like that bodysuit, with the same shape/highlighter effect, but in the form of a mini dress

this was obviously a 'strictly for the runway only' look. i would almost feel bad for her if i saw someone trying to rock this in real life - even WITH model-like proportions.
