DIY: Best Book Cover Ever

vogue bag 1.jpgWhen we got the clear plastic cover for our September Vogue in the mail recently, we thought, “what are we going to do with this?”

And then it hit us - if we were still in school, this would make the perfect book cover for a huge Geometry (or Chemistry, World History, Earth Science) text book!

Step 1: Unlock the little briefcase, and slide out the mammoth Vogue.

Step 2: Insert your super heavy textbook, making sure the covers are secure under the plastic flaps.

Step 3: Optional - Decorate the plastic cover with stickers or clippings. We suggest Lisa Frank, or clippings from the original September Vogue, for posterity.

Step 4: Be prepared for major compliments upon the first day of class, and to get all your money back when you resell your textbook to the school store.

So much cooler than brown paper bag, no?

Can we talk about the heinous Keira cover? I mean its so bad I cant believe that Anna approved it. OR Si Newhouse as he approves everything.

Nope, I'd still prefer brown paper bag.

And yeah, the cover? Her hair looked so matted and odd. Makes me wonder if Keira raised an eyebrow at it -- thinking, "This is how you want my hair to look?"

If I brought that to school people would ask me why I have a bag with a picture of Keira looking like a newborn baby on it.

But, good idea.

Oh dear, guest number one i completely agree! i checked out the Vogue diaries video of this shoot and like every other photo of her in the editorial is on so many levels better than this! What were they thinking?!

I have Lisa Frank stickers from elementary school back from our sticker trading days.
This is a nifty idea though.

Thank you, guest 1 for bringing this up!!

Finally, someone speaks out on the hideousness of this cover. I literally picked it up off the shelf, held it for a second, and put it back. It is TERRIBLE!

This picture does not make me drool for fall fashion and actually makes me believe that the editors have lost their minds. Between this and Jessica Simpson on Elle, there definitely needs to be new life breathed into this industry. And fast.

From Guest #1: I have to tell you - I loved the Harpers with Tyra. It was a great issue. I have only glanced at the Vogue because the cover truly bothers me and I am not a huge Keira fan - but it didnt even look like her on teh cover!! The hair is bad - and don't get me started on the outfit. And the ELLE- I cant even talk about it. For years blurry Gilles covers - now Gilles is out and the blurry covers return. BTW had NO IDEA that jessica simpson even had something going on this fall until i read the issue. also seriously? a flannel shirt and jeans? so not exciting. I also am loving the september issue of W Kate Hudson looks pretty fierce.

That blue outfit and Lily D.'s outfit from the Balenciaga runway were my favorite from the show and I really hoped to see it on a cover, but with Keira's hairdo I feel like the whole image is decadent. :(

I know someone who's been doing that for years! It's a super cute way to carry your books.

#9 i agree with your sentiment, harpers bazaar is my favourite magazine this september. need i say more than "karl lagerfeld dressed as lil wayne"? that beats pretty much anything ever.

Well, at least Keira appeared in separates. Usually it's the same old, same old with a blonde actress and a full-length dress.

I was flummoxed when I saw this cover... it's just so wrong. But then I can't remember a great Vogue cover in ages. I guess it is the US Weekly effect.

The shots in the actual Berlin story are lovely, but this is just strange. Her hair looks like someone did a terrible photoshop job, cutting around it, and the outfit is blah. The hair the hair the hair? What effect are they trying to get with this?

I'm so glad someone's finally talking about the heinous Keira cover...I feel like Vogue covers are getting worse and worse. I would have much rather seen Lily on the cover in that outfit than Keira. I did like the ones of her in Katja Strunz's and Anselm Reyle's studios though, but there was barely any mention of the Berlin artists.

Keira's cover is absolutely heinous.
But what the hell is this clear plastic cover you're talking about? I'm a subscriber and I didn't get one!

I hated the vogue cover BUT harper's doesn't give me stories about smelly food.

Enough said.

How do you get one of those clear covers? Were they just sent out to media like you lucky ones at Fashionista? I suspect they are not available at the newsstand.

Anna said that they wanted to keep the shoot modern since she's in period films all the time, but yeah, I definitely did not get that special issue in the mail, just the regular one. Poo.

Thank god i am not the only one, this cover is absolutely dreadful. In fact US Vogue has been good only at producing awful cover's this year (the robot Paltrow one, the LeBron one, seriously!!! and how can we forget the lobotomized Kate Moss one)what is going on?

Are they serious? And i dread to think what will they do to Rachel Weisz who is on the cover of October, hopefully a woman that beautiful wont be messed up.
