Double Double Toil and Trouble

Aug 04, 2008 @ 12:45pm

double covers pull.jpgFact: I've read every foreign Vogue in existence. In a dozen, plus, languages.

Fact: I study models before going to bed at night and upon waking in the morning.

Fact: Vogue UK and Vogue Paris love their cover models so much they often make sure they're posing on the back cover, too (click through for further evidence!)

Fact: Noticing this trend has triggered compulsive magazine flipping of every issue that slides across my desk.

Possible Fact: If I ripped out all the covers and back-cover ads and arranged them on my wall Beautiful Mind style, do you think I could conjure my own Lisa like in Weird Science?

this has nothing to do with the models. it is based on the advertisers.

it just so happens the big models book both the campaign AND the cover.

I noticed the exact same thing yesterday with the Lily Vogue. Weird.

It doesn't surprise me that someone like Kate or Daria would be on both the front and the back ... they're in every damned ad in the middle, too!

Also notice that Daria is wearing head-to-toe Dior (including bag and watch) on the Paris Vogue cover - strangely enough, the back cover is an ad for Dior... Coincidence?

Fact: If Kyle can read a dozen, plus, languages, shouldn't he be doing something bigger than interning at Fashionista, like oh, I don't know, working for the CIA?

Seriously?

It's pretty common; the back cover of US Vogue is about $150,000 last I checked, and it's easier to get an advertiser (even an advertiser with a huge budget) to spend that kind of money on a single-page ad when you've given them such a huge amount of free press for their poster girl on the front cover. Plus, their profiles almost always mention the campaigns that the cover girls are in, which is by no means a coincidence.

I find it incredibly annoying when the back covers of fashion magazines bare hidious Nutregena ads. You'd think they could choose something a bit more, well, high fashion?!
