GQ Is Hiring

Aug 08, 2008 @ 3:55pm

gq cover with johnny depp.jpgWant an entry level job in fashion that doesn't involve auditioning for Stylista? How about this:

GQ needs a new Fashion Assistant.

You should be really smart, really patient, really reliable, really good with people, and really familiar with men's and women's markets. This is not an entry level position for Project Runway addicts; it's a serious job for a young stylist or market editor who already has experience working in the fashion closet of a major national magazine.

If you are one of those people, send a brief cover letter and resume to Ashley_Boer@condenast.com, and make sure you check out men.style.com before your interview.

that's not "bitchy," that's flat-out honesty. i am so annoyed with the naivete that comes with this new breed of aspiring "stylista"s who assume that because he or she was the best dressed person in his/her town in minnesota/kansas/etc. that every magazine would be DYING to interview with.

really, if you have to ask that question, you should consider retail.

It's not necessarily naivete, so don't be a bitch. GQ is produced and edited in NY but a lot of the work that goes into it -- especially for celebrity photo shoots -- happens in LA. If I'm not mistaken, one of the GQ fashion assistants actually works out of LA as a sittings assistant.

That's just ridiculous, #2. It was a good question, you shouldn't be so quick to judge. Maybe you shant bother applying yourself, it definitely seems that you lack the maturity. Just lighten up and listen to #5.

And BTW, is that the new cover of GQ? I'm definitely reading.

#6 unfortunately that's British GQ.

#2--the job description clearly says that it's not an entry level position, so the people you described are not applying, and I am sure the original poster knows that it is a serious job...

I thought No.2 was being pretty damned bitchy also. Just because one may already work in the fashion industry, there's no need to be a bitch toward those that may be aspiring to do so.

It's people like No. 2 that give the industry it's bad reputation, for being the career destination of choice for narcissistic, opinionated assholes - that seem to think that their "style" is superior to others.

Actually she has no point. Almost all magazines have an assistant in L.A. so maybe you (#2) should check your facts before you tell people not to apply to something.

Oh and p.s. you neither capitalized or put an apostrophe in "shan't" so maybe you shouldn't be posting online.
