Hayden-Harnett Hearts PONY

pony sneaker.jpgWe just got back from hanging out with Toni Hacker, designer and creative director of Hayden-Harnett, and you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for the whole story, but for now, we’ll let you in on a little secret because we’re too excited not to share.

She, and the rest of her creative team, is partnering with PONY to bring you a super fun, super limited-edition sneaker collection.

The Brooklyn based PONY, which actually stands for “Product of New York”, approached the designer this summer to put some signature, vintage inspired colorful prints on their beloved sneakers because they, “like our flavor,” Hacker says.

The designer, who’s relegated her Chucks to the back of the closet in favor of Hayden-Harnett’s upcoming shoe collection, is thrilled at the opportunity to make cute sneakers for her loyal fan base.

So are we Toni, so are we.

(Stay tuned for pictures!)

I have to say that Pony tries to relaunch ever few years by tying in with either some psuedo cool celebrities or designers that could give them street cred. But in actuality the Pony image (that of totally burned out stoner heavy metal kids who wear them and listen to death metal) is a hard one to shake. Not to mention the shoes pictured are unbelieveably ugly. I mean seriously? Who is actually going to rock Pony sneakers? Karen O? Converse have always had cred - they are authentic rock n roll footwear worn by everyone from the Ramones and Kurt Cobain to Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss and that is why they have staying power and no stigma.

Agree with 1st commenter. Pony has tried so many ways to get street cred but the brand has no real identity. It really wasn't that long ago when they did their first big relaunch attaching themselves to bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit and other lame nu metal bands. I'll be sticking to Converse.

Well I actually like them! But I remember Pony in the 80s was really naff. Almost as bad as wearing 'Adidas Two-stripe' trainers (ie, from the supermarket)...Same with Gola.

Haha, who cares about "street cred". You can't blame a brand for failing to become a success after every re-launch. I think PONY is awesome, I just can't seem to find their shoes for women anywhere. They definitely do come up with nicer styles for men however. However "uncool" you fashionistas may find PONY, I want a pair, and can't wait to see the results of this collaboration.
