Healthy Tents Are Happy Tents

doutzen healthy and pretty.jpgStanding in the "lobby" of the Bryant Park tents during Fashion Week means being pelted with copies of WWD and Fashion Week Daily while buying 'wichcraft sandwiches, coffee from an awkward sponsor and dodging street style bloggers.

But if you're looking for more intelligent pursuits in the ten minutes between Herve and DVF you can swing by the CFDA's health booth. Among all the crazy ideas we've heard about monitoring the industry's skinniness - this might be the most rational.

At Diane's behest, the CFDA's teaming up with the Renfrew Cetner, an eating disorder treatment facility, "to answer specific questions, provide referrals and basically perform overall outreach to any person who might be interested in treatment or may be worried about someone they are working with," said Steven Kolb.

It could work - even we need a reminder to eat during Fashion Week. And we never forget to eat.

Although I think it's fantastic to install an informational booth like this at Fashion Week, I can't imagine anyone seeking counseling for an eating disorder or body dysmorphic disorder in such a public, highly-photographed venue. The booth's mere presence sends an important message, but it's a tough sell ... especially to a group of people who may not even realize they are being unhealthy. I bet they'll get far more concerned friends and coworkers than potential treatment recipients.

You are right, Sal, but getting info to concerned friends and coworkers is a good step--probably how most people realize they need treatment in the first place.

Renfrew was featured in that documentary THIN (it also had a book) for HBO. It's a pretty intense program. IDK how well this booth will go over but at least it's something.
