MTV Makes Model Makers

Aug 11, 2008 @ 9:33am

antm winner.jpgIt's one week until IMG and Vogue's Models.Live premieres, and now MTV's trying to get in on the model market share... sort of.

They're casting for a new show, Model Makers, for which they'll make contestants compete against each other for a career in modeling (plus $100,000) in a weekly eliminations-based show that sounds almost exactly like ANTM.

But, here's the catch - candidates for the show must be between the ages of 17 and 24, and 130 - 190 pounds in weight.

Did we mention that viewers will have the pleasure of watching contestants try to train/diet their weight off to be model-sized by the end?

Full details after the jump, dignity not included.

MODEL MAKERS: a new MTV "Transformation Make-Over" Reality Show

WE WANT TO MAKE YOU A MODEL. ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?

Have you always wanted to model but don't know where to start? Maybe you don't know the right people. Maybe you are not thin enough. Maybe you are not photogenic. MODEL MAKERS will give you the ultimate make-over and transform you into the model of your dreams.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but models don't. The term model
conjures an image of stick-thin, towering beauties oozing confidence, glamour,
poise and sexuality from every pore. "Skinny," "no body fat," and "size zero" are
the words and phrases associated with models. "Chubby," "well-fed," and "big-
boned" are not...

Until now!
From acclaimed Model Manager Michael Flutie, Cris Abrego Productions and MTV, introducing "MODEL MAKERS", the show that dares to go where no modeling show has gone before.

15 lucky women from around the country will get the opportunity of a lifetime when MTV hands them over to Michael Flutie and an expert team of trainers, nutritionists, stylists, and other industry leaders. Under the watchful "eye" of these experts, models will endure twelve weeks of intensive physical fitness training to help them get down to their ideal size. Models will also compete in various high fashion challenges to determine who has star quality. With weekly eliminations looming, models must put their best foot forward at all times while staying focused on losing weight.

Let MODEL MAKERS transform you. Get in shape, develop your modeling skills and polish your "look" to achieve your ultimate goal of becoming a high fashion model. If your transformation is successful, you will be rewarded with not only the experience of a lifetime, but with the MTV prize package that includes:

- $100,000
- A professional modeling portfolio
- A personal trainer for one year
- The chance to jumpstart the career of your dreams

HOW TO ENTER:

So what does it take to get on the show? "We are looking for beautiful, charismatic women who are willing to put in the effort to become a true model," says Michael Flutie.

If you are between the ages of 17 & 24, 5'9" to 6' tall, and 130-190 pounds, please send a recent photo of yourself (head shots and body shots in a bathing suit) to mtvmodel@madwood.tv along with your

5'10'' and 130 lbs is actually really really skinny. Actress skinny (but not runway model skinny). This show is kind of sick.

Anyone else remember the modeling competition MTV used to have in the late 90's hosted by Rebecca Romijn and that picked finalists at malls?

Yeah, I agree with basically all of the other comments already left.
At first I thought they were going to promote "plus-sized" (i.e healthy looking) models. But 130 pounds and 5'9" is SUPER skinny already. I hope no one actually watches this show.

It seems like the general argument against the hyperthin model backlack is the fact that many industry insiders claim that many of the young models who look emaciated look like that naturally
That will clearly not be the case with the contestants on this show. They're taking girls, who are not naturally model sized, and then they're telling them to lose weight. If these girls are naturally 130 or over, they'll have to lose at least 20 pounds to actively compete. Then, they'd have to maintain such an unnaturally low weight for as long as they wish to model.
On top of that, the show sends a terrible message to the viewers of the show, which will certainly include impressionable teenage girls. In my opinion, it sends the message that being 5'9 and 130 pounds isn't thin enough. That is, in my opinion, a horrible message. Particularly because in reality, being 130 at 5'9 is still pretty damn thin.

this show will never work. there will be too much backlash over taking healthy sized girls and trying to make them stick thin. i love bad television, but even i wouldn't watch this!

i honestly cant remember the last time i was so angry.
this just disgusts me.

there is no way a 190 lb. girl will be able to become "model-sized" in the time it takes to film this show.

something tells me that whomever wins is going to have to spend most of her winnings on psychiatrists and nutritionists...

Does a girl who's 5'9 and 130 lbs actually need to lose more weight? I thought the modeling industry was trying to promote a healthier image after the deaths of two anorexic runway models.

i don't kno if i should be excited about this because i'm 15 or pissed off because they're trying to turn anyone into a model when modeling isn't meant for everyone i mean i'm 5.9 and a half, weigh 140...does that make me...healthy? or overweight?

The claim that this show will help people "get in shape" is ridiculous. Rail thin is not "in shape" and we don't need more people developing eating disorders in their attempts to emulate models.

even though the show sounds stupid and a complete waste of time, it's really annoying to constantly hear people take offense over the fashion/modeling industry. i mean, hello, this is nothing new here. if you want to be a model, you have to play by the rules. so if you're not stick-thin and 6 ft tall, please go champion the image of women in the media elsewhere. you're not going to change a designer or casting director's opinion just because you're "big & beautiful". nobody's saying that you aren't; you're just not what they're looking for.

Peronsally I think it looks interesting. BTW, I don't think eating disorders just happen. Some random girl is not going to go on this show and "develop" an eating disorder. Either you're prone or pre-destined or you're not. Trigger of an Ed, possibly, cause of an Ed, no. Just a thought
