they were going to use alicia, becuase she was older and more experienced, but she also had a squeaky clean image they didnt qute want. then claire came in for the audition and blew them away. however, claire was significantly younger [13], which created a lot of problems union child-working problems.

I know that in the commentary of My So Called life Winnie Holzman (writer and creator) mentions Alicia Silverstone was first in consideration for the role but Winnie preferred Claire's innocent but mature nature that she found reflected in Angela Chase. Alicia Silverstone as a fashion darling can, and should be argued. But are we forgetting Aerosmith's Cryin' and a little film called Excess Baggage--haha, yeah we are, and rightfully so. Regardless, Alicia was like, so the first in consideration. And he does lean great.

Alicia Silverstone was my fashion darling growing up, I shopped at Contempo Casual solely because of her! (yikes).
