“This month, Tatler says I should go and buy a solid silver lid for my Marmite, and a 14-carat gold bra. This is not so much a “tip”, as an incitement to burning down the Condé Nast building, while wearing cheap clothing, no lip gloss and a smile.” - Tanya Gold, on trying to live her life according to women’s magazines’ advice, in the Guardian.

#1, She was being satirical about this woman specifically:

which is why it was "absurd."
yay satire.

Hmm this article was interesting, but also a bit absurd. You can't live your life according to what a magazine says, if you want to pick up a certain magazine and read it, just take bits and pieces from it that you feel will benefit you. I sit down and read a 700 page fashion magazine when I want to relax and kill some time, but it does not act as my fashion bible. She is exploring a typical stereotype that women who enjoy fashion take every little thing a magazine prints and applies it to their own life, and honestly I don't think there are many women out there who fit this stereotype. But a smile came to my face when I read this part - "Cosmopolitan, the sex-crazed best friend you want to stab in the face." - that is a perfect way to personify that horrid magazine!
