Jumping Gemma

We heard Gemma Ward’s next movie The Black Balloon may premier in “key” US cities sometime this October, so here’s a fun little video to add to the hype.

Gemma wore a beret to talk to Australian TV about The Black Balloon, in which she plays the cute girlfriend of a good-hearted guy, and about how she’s wanted to be an actress since she was seven. And why do we love this clip so much? Because it includes bits of Gemma jumping up and down in her little school girl outfit when she was a kid, and hamming it up for the camera for what was probably a school play audition. Amazingly, she looks exactly the same.

On a side note, we just want to point out that whenever we see videos of younger models talking, our first thought is always “wow, you are so young” since you usually don’t grasp just how young a lot of them are until they break out into fidgets and “you know” between every “like” and “yeah!” But it’s the opposite with Gemma. When she talks, she comes across as intelligent and poised, so you finally realize that she’s not, in fact, twelve.

Enjoy!

Hmm...
I saw this movie in Australia a couple of months ago and she's totally adorable in it but there's no way she pulls off being 15. The whole movie is a little bit "off".

Gemma is gorgeous and extremely talented - definately one of the most creative, artistic, and expressive models out there today. It's always to my pleasant suprise that when she speaks she's entirely intelligent and grounded. I believe she's a very well rounded girl whose maturity has been enhanced by her success, which we see so rarely these days in the numerous young starlets; I expect that we will see her do some amazing things in her career.

It's a beautifully made film, with an uncomfortably realistic and sensitive portrayal of what it's like to live with an autistic sibling. Gemma is great in it.

This is one of the few 'model videos' I've seen where I didn't come away with a lesser opinion of the film's subject. She is grounded and eloquent and really seems like she's keeping things in perspective. You're an inspiration Gemma, keep it up!

I saw this when it came out in Australia and it's a stunning movie, really moving. Gemma is great in it too.
