Adventures in Copyright: Turning Tables

sickest kids.jpgIn the most ironic news of the day: Forever 21 is suing rock band Forever the Sickest Kids for, here's the kicker, copyright infringement. Apparently the use of 'Forever' in the band's moniker is just too similar to the clothing company's name - which is funny because we weren't aware you could own a word, especially one as pervasive as 'forever' (now, a Chloe shoe design, that's another thing...).

We would be more shook up if we felt their claim had more merit to it, but, really? Does this mean MANGO can now sue fruit sellers all across the world? Or that London's famous "mind the gap" could be hastily changed to "mind the narrow space between"? Of course, we sincerely hope not. And we can't imagine a judge who would disagree.

This may just go to show how ridiculously sue-happy the world has become, but we like to think of it as a great case of what goes around comes around. We can't wait for the verdict.

How ironic! If Forever21 somehow wins the case, all the designers they copied should go to the same judge that Forever21 used and get their money!!

I know how much you guys hate Forever 21, they definitely should lose this suit and have to pay the band for all costs.

forever the sickest kids, being my favorite band, said this is the second time forever 21 tried suing them.

this is funny because I just recently told the bands street team to head over to fashionista to view all the copyright infringement involving forever 21, which essentially meaning they don't have a case. forever 21 is a joke.

Publicity stunt?

Otherwise that is just insane. They can't seriously expect to win that.

F21 stooping to a new low.

Forever 21 should be stabbed at the back. As if the word forever was ever original. Really now, I think they're just trying to draw attention to themselves. Or perhaps, they think too highly of their brand that they feel every 'forever' out there automatically refers to them. They must be desperate.

Copyright infringement? Shouldn't it be trademark infringement? Do you have an actual source for this info?

FTSK would not be as awesome as they are with a different name. is forever21 that much of a money grub to go that low? c'mon get over it its not like people will think of forever21 when they hear forever the sickest kids. if they do then forever21 should be happy cuz thats a great endorsement, with FTSK somehow advertising for that store then sales would be soaring. FTSK is the best so give them a break!
