"I've always found that word ('hipster') is used with such disdain, like it's always used by chubby bloggers who aren't getting laid anymore and are bored, and they're just so mad at these young kids for going out and getting wasted and having fun and being fashionable." - Gavin McInnes, of Vice, giving the other side of the hipster argument, via the Guardian.

I'm probably more of a hipster than not, but I gotta say that Vice Magazine grosses me out. I read the latest issue and they devoted mulitiple pages on an experiment to see who could go the longest without using the bathroom. That magazine is sometimes funny but mostly annoying, and I don't think it serves the pro-hipster cause well.

Gavin McInnes is the ultimate jackass. He's a neo-conservative who writes for VDARE (this anti-immigration group). His ideology is so radical (he's the anti-PC, using the n word, denigrating minorities) that nobody knows if he's kidding or not. Is he trying to be ironic? Is he serious?
His articles at VDARE are never satirical, however.

Hipsters are the worst. First of all, tight tapered jeans on guys are not flattering.
#3If you are uncertain as to whether someone is rocking a hipster fashion, ask yourself, Is this meant to look "ironic." For example, Is that an "ironic" mustache? Hang outside the L station in Williamsburg for the full lesson.
With that said, there are a few who walk the hipster line that get away with it (Michelle Williams, for one), but they are few and far between.

many people see the 'hipster' lifestyle and look as being fuled by a disposable income (or at least a majority of the income going to clothes, music, parties etc..) 'chubby bloggers' may use the word with disdain, but so do those who feel alienated by the hipster followers who in turn seem to look down on them for not buying trendy clothes in order to save money

cool quote. (though, isn't the term 'blogger' often used with distain as well?)
as i learned riding the L one night, there are actually other demographics that hate hipsters:
