Sonic Youth to Design

mirrordash.JPG
Marc Jacobs might be over the moon about this: after being the unofficial music mascot for his label, his favorite rock band’s bassist, Kim Gordon, is launching her own clothing line called Mirror/Dash.

Moms will be happy to know that Kim’s line is aimed at “cool moms,” which, I must admit, is a refreshing change from the usual teen hipster market.

Kim counts French singer and fashion icon Francoise Hardy as one of her main influences - and for those of you who aren’t familiar with Miss Hardy, we’ll fill you in: she’s really bad-ass. Case in point: the Hardy jacket that’s the only item up on the Mirror/Dash site so far, a motorcycle jacket in dark gray wool, modeled on a girl whose brown hair and bangs looks like Francoise herself.

She’s only selling 50 of these jackets to ensure the item remains as limited-edition as possible, just like most of the goods on the site will be.

But we wonder - will this inspire Marc to release an alternative rock album anytime soon?

Funny, most of the "cool moms" I know wear larger than a size 8.

Kim Gordon had a line called X-Girl in the 90s.

It looks like this jacket was more inspired by Mike & Chris than Francoise Hardy.

i really hope this line is made better than the x-girl line.

i remembering buying this x-girl jacket with a red fur lining and the dye from the fur got all over my shirt and ruined it.

i also bought a pair of blue velvet pants that fell apartment when i washed them. the catalog wasn't even photos, it was illustrations. and she had a fashion show on a public side walk. so lame.

that coat does not look like its worth $400

I love love love love it! I hope she comes out with a full collection. Been missing X-Girl - those were the days.

Let's play a game... What fashion icon was the model in X-Girl's first runway show??

I love Kim Gordon. She's actually older than my Mom, which blew me away when I was 13, because she was so much cooler than mine. I guess a line for cool Moms makes sense.

Don't forget, people, that a lot of young women in their late 20s/early 30s who grew up with Sonic Youth, and X-girl, are having babies now. These are probably the cool Moms they're aiming this at - not the 50 year olds.
