Anthropologie Gets a Show, Too

anthropologie mirrored side table.jpgUsually when yet another fashion person decides to take their shit show to television, we groan, roll our eyes, feel sincere shock, but then set our TiVo anyway.

But yesterday, we read that Keith Johnson, Anthropologie’s antiques buyer, will be getting his own show, and we weren’t disgusted.

To begin with, it’s on the Sundance Channel, home to Iconoclasts, so how bad could it be?

Secondly, the working title is Man Shops Globe - best job description possible - which entails cameras following Keith as he “scours the flea markets in Paris to remote villages in countries such as India” looking for the next great find. In other words, you follow him doing his job, while he travels the world, so it’ll be like Spain, On the Road Again, but with all the cute, kitschy stuff you wish you were willing to buy in the home section in the back of Anthropologie stores. And no Gwyneth.

But maybe secret flea finds in New York?

i used to work for anthropologie and they seed their stores with antiques that this guy finds all over the world. mostly they serve as decoration but once in awhile someone (really) wealthy buys one of the pieces. he does a great job, some of the pieces we had while i worked there were from not only paris, but thailand and nepal. it would be cool to see him work

yes, and he also causes an uproar when he brings back settees and foot stools from india that are decorated with swastikas (in indian culture, the ancient symbol for luck and good fortune), which then have to be damaged out when too many customers complain.

If you're that rich that you can afford Anthropologies inflated prices, it seems really pathetic that you can't pick out a fantastic table on your summer jaunts to France, Thailand etc. Flea markets aren't that hard to find. People are so lazy, it kills me. . .
