Ashley Olsen's Bold Faced Lie

Oct 24, 2008 @ 2:00pm

We're not sure of the nutritional fashion value of posting this clip, but we know you saw it, and we feel compelled to point something out.

Amidst the Lauren Hutton news, Influence hype and semi-awkward self-interviews, Oprah found time to ask the Olsen's about their breakfast habits.

Three minutes and thirty seconds in, Ashley Olsen says she loves Murray's bagels, scooped out, double toasted and smothered in light cream cheese.

Well, Ashley, the first time we ever saw you, before we worked in the same industry and kind of saw you everywhere, was at the Murray's on 6th Ave. So we know you really go there, but we also know that you didn't order any bagels, just the biggest coffee we've ever seen.

If you had ordered a bagel, you would know that Murray's doesn't toast. Ever. Like, no matter how much you beg, even if you are an Olsen, (which no one seemed to realize but us). It's like Murray's entire backwards bagel philosophy. So they definitely don't double toast.

It's cool. We still love you. Just thought we'd let you know so that next time someone asks you what you eat for breakfast, your answer will be flawless.

I, too, noticed this. But maybe she goes home (lives round the corner) and toasts it up herself! Also, thought it was slightly inappropriate to pry about the breakfast habits of a recovering anorexic. Did you catch that Ashley said she wasn't a fan of milk? Hopefully the Got Milk? campaign they did years ago isn't still circulating or she'll be "in big trouble, Mister"

maybe she gets the bagel at Murray's and toasts it at Panera? ...or somewhere...

That was the most boring interview I have EVER seen. I was all excited about speaking Olsens and then I realized perhaps they should not speak. Someone should give them the Kate Moss advice about not giving interviews and building mystery about them. I also wouldn't go so far as calling them a fashion icon. I feel like in 10 years maybe they can be called that.

i actually enjoyed their interview.

mainly because it was just interesting 2 see (1) them actually speak. (2) how different they really are (3) their shoe choices [amazing] & (4) their need 2 reiterate that they DO, in fact, work. lol.

Murray's totally toasts.

They don't toast when the bagels are fresh out of the oven, but I know for sure they toast, b/c they've done it for me.

#7: Murray's doesn't toast. Ever. You must be thinking of a different bagel place.

Also, this interview was so painfully boring. I really wanted it to be good.

Oprah was the first one to say, "Toasted"? And Ash replied, "Toasted." She replied with her preference, she never said they toasted them for her. What a ridiculous topic, and to call her a liar?! pff. Get over it.

BOLD FACED LIE.

your headline makes it sound so much worse than it really is. even if she lied, it was only over a freaking bagel being toasted or not.

Its true, Murray's will never toast. Against their bagel philosophy. I love a bagel with their lox spread and ordered it toasted once and not only got a dirty look, but a lecture as well.

Fashionista, I still will always love you no matter what (as well as the Olsen twins) but recently, some of your topic choices and comments have been...uh...less than relevant and kind of dumb. I know everyone is still recovering from the ridiculous over-stimulation that was Spring fashion month and that any news regarding high fashion is going to be scarce for a bit but you guys can be more interesting than this. This is the kind of story best suited for some god-awful abortion like Perezhilton.com. You guys have so many resources and know so much, what about underground brands, different web stores, new advances in fashion technology/trends etc. You guys are like the fashion "everyman" and I love that so much and that's why people love reading your blog, they can relate to it. However, I just feel as though reading you lately bears more resemblance to being forced to overhear a conversation between two girls eternally in Ugg boots on the second floor of the library...and I have a test in 5 hours...and they're talking about Jessica Simpson.

Don't get me wrong, I watch The Hills, participate in this weird postmodern celebrity culture, LOLcat etc. but I read you because you DON'T always write about these things.

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh, I've just been debating whether or not to write this for the past 2 weeks or so and it kind of all came out at once. I STILL LOVE YOU!

i agree with guest post #2, oprah seemed so hardened with them. i rarely watch her but, in my opinion, she showed real disdain for most everything they said. and i guess mary-kate is the bossy one in the relationship; girl didn't let poor ashley get a word in edgewise!

Don't you think it's entirely possible that Ashley has Mary-Kate's masseuse pick up her bagels, bring them to her home and toast them FOR HER, in between her calls to Mary Kate and then 911?

This would explain A LOT!

Seriously?! The title is a little much Fashionista... Oprah was the one who really went with the bagel thing and ran with it... She even said later how she misses bagels so much and that "double toasted" is what she likes... I thought Ashley seemed caught off guard because it is a ridiculous thing to be discussing on Oprah...

1) One never knows just what will be done for an Olsen, but in any case,

2) These girls have about a trillion assistants. An assistant probably goes to the bagel place, buys the bagel, goes elsewhere to prepare it just as little Ash desires, and serves it up. You really think Ashley Olsen picks up her own breakfast?

what i love about people calling fashionista bitchy and mean for doing this is that they take the time to try and call them out on it.

obviously you don't understand fashionista's sarcasm. the headline was a joke and the story was just a witty commentary. take it as one, not as a serious news story.

lighten up everyone, sheesh.

And I think this can be largely attributed to Britt. How is this apparent?
Um maybe that bit when she wrote "Well, Ashley, the first time we ever saw you, before we worked in the same industry and kind of saw you everywhere". haha this sounds like something a voguette would say, and seriously what Faran is known for doing is being the furthest thing from a voguette possible, so try a little bit harder.

ps. I hear Britt and Natalie do wear Uggs.
