Breaking: Facchinetti Out at Valentino

Oct 03, 2008 @ 11:49am

alessandra facchinetti end of fall 08 couture.jpgThis just in from WWD:

Alessandra Facchinetti has been confirmed as officially out at Valentino, pending a vote by the company’s board.

But her successor, after just two seasons with the house, won’t be Giambattista Valli, as some were hoping.

The new targets designers?

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, longtime accessories designers for Valentino.

No word on yet on where Alessandra’s heading, or whether today’s collection ever had a prayer of saving her..

That's terrible. I loved her collections for Valentino. I never even liked Valentino until she stepped in. This really sucks. For me, this is almost as bad at Paolo Melim Andersson leaving Chloe

^^no the first time was by Frida G (which happenned to be in that time accesories designer for gucci ...interesting)

And it sucks that they kick her out after only 3 shows, she was giving the brand the needed young wake up.

Her SS09 collection is gorgeous, I think Valentino people would regret this.

AH! I feel so bad for her ... I actually really enjoyed her Valentino work, I thought she did a good job for progressing the brand but still keeping it "Valentino".
She should just start her own line or something ...

The board members should give her more time. Just look at Pilati, his first few collections received that "lukewarm" response and then his collections started to get all the accolates.

i am sure every post-er on this link is under the age of 40. yes, alessandra is an excellent designer, but you, my friends aren't the clients going out to buy multiple thousand dollar garments. the valentino team must continue to please their loyal customers... and in a time of economic recession an exciting fashion show here and there doesn't a successful company make. give the board a break! they're just trying to do whats right for the company.

so true post #10. unfortunately, fashion has gone the way of the business model for selling toothpaste and soap...artistry is risky and with the fear of boards who must answer to stockholders, houses no longer give designers the time necessary to execute a vision. think olivier thieskins (SP?)
at rochas and now ousted again at nina ricci. does everybody have to produce another hideous perfume or pretentious handbag to secure their position as a "designer"???
